For the fireworks?

We went to a friends BBQ party and had lots of different salads, and different meat. Thankgod the weather was nice

You betcha. By the end of the evening, I was sorry that I didn't have any for myself.

Sorry to hear that. I sympathize with folks whose dogs freak out from the noise. It's got to be traumatic just to have to choose between a canine nervous breakdown and drugging your mutt. Ours handles it well unless she knows we're the ones setting the fireworks off (then she wants to "save" us).

Thanks, although I have no qualms about giving the pup drugs if she needs them. I'm sure that both of us would rather have had a nice juicy steak.

We had fondue, it was awesome..It was bought in France, Swiss cheese though, since all was dead and closed in our hood. We were at friends' and had white wine with it, pickles and other pickled stuff from Migors, that was lovely. Even toddlers ate it. And fruit salad and raspberry BABOVKA (a Czech version of a pound cake) I made for desert.

I can't believe this !!!

You mean you actually celebrated 1st of August in Texas and had a Swiss menu?

My dear Sada, what's so hard to believe? I would have been doing it in Suisse, had it been at all possible (and I continue working on that). But for now, that seems like the least I can do to enjoy my Swiss roots.

(At least I didn't build a fire or sing ... )

You could have done a bit of Fahnen schwingen though

Okay, I'll work on that for next year.

Well, I did the same in Chile... Wurst, rösti, sauerkraut and beer. A perfect lunch and evening to share with the family.
