+1 in Basel

Hello

It looks likely that I will be moving to Basel so I am more than happy to have found this forum.

Still not made my decision, but I guess I won't be able to say no to this offer.

Worried a bit also because people say the swiss are notoriously reserved... Don't know what to say about that, visited Switzerland a few times, found them somehow more open than Germans in Bavaria, but maybe it's just a wrong impression I got. I'll look also on the forum for:

-some who I can drink a Guiness with and watch the PL

-some to grab a coffee with and talk about what not

-amateur cyclists

-nice swimming pools

-other social activities

Wishing you a nice day

Pre-Welcome to Basel!

Regardless of Swiss friendliness, Basel is full of foreigners with their own level of engagement

Hi, welcome to the EF and soon to Basel!

If you get into underwater hockey that will cover all of your desires. They train in a pool just across the border in France, as they can get pool space there …

I haven’t spoken to them for a while, but they should still be playing regularly!
Check out the Swiss Underwater Hockey page and scroll down for the Basel link.

Welcome to (soon to be) in Basel!

It’s a lovely town, I’ve lived here 10 years, and people on the whole are generally pretty friendly - obviously with exceptions that you’d get in any town.

There’s quite an active cycle group - Basel Expats Cycling:

And lots of MeetUp groups to browse through in your spare time and sign up to.

Basel has I think (at least) 3 Irish bars for the Guiness fix :-).

Safe travels and hope you enjoy Switzerland and Basel!

Welcome! Best place to grab a Guinness and meet people is at Flanagan’s.

That's what I'm counting on it will be like my time in Munich where my best friends were 2 from Portugal and 1 from Brazil.

Hi, Thank you.

I must have been living under a rock, because I didn't even know underwater hockey is a thing. It sure looks fun! Thank you for this piece of info.

I noticed Basel in my travels it has a cool atmosphere, somewhat laid back. I liked it.

Thanks for the link to the FB group. This will surely help.

I'll probably sign up for MeetUp.

I'll make sure Flanagan’s going to be my first stop then... cheers!

It is my favorite as well. Their menu is always good (and basic!) and the staff is friendly.

Welcome. If your cycling takes you off the road, I'd be game. Road, not so much, sorry.

Coffee, well maybe, cyclists at least have a common topic...

Basel is great !! Come on over !!

That's so good to hear

Definitely in for cycling off the road, but I would have to get in a bit of shape. I hope the surroundings of Basel aren't very hilly... they didn't look that way anyway.

Nice to hear this. I'll come on, but let me overthink my decision for a bit.

Speaking of which, is there anyone available to answer some questions in private? Regarding ... finances ofc.

I am in the same position as you - but I just decided I am coming!

I assume PL is Premier League, no? If so Absolutely. Guinness too. I am more of a soccer man but I do cycle a bit and maybe Switzerland by bike would be interesting (well maybe not the way you people are doing it - like twice a week and 50-mile long ride). I will post my introduction in a separate post.

Congratulations on your decision. I still cannot decide... there are so many things to overthink both work wise and on a personal level.

PL Premier League yes, glad to hear. Not sure what's that soccer thing though

50 miles?! maybe 5-10 if it's flat lol

PM me when you think you're ready. Depends on what you call hilly....

Pm me if you do decide to come.
