Little gripe im having at work, it can be pelting down with snow and hail and be -15 degrees outside but i find some people at the place i work, particulary the Swiss, seem to love to open up the windows ...and leave them open turning most of the people around me , including myself, into creeking, shivering , frost-bitten things ...ok rant over ..continue as normal.
.
.
no use of profanity, no misuse of capitalization, and complaining of snow?.. in May?
buy a jumper and continue on.
But actually I have found quite the opposite, that the Swiss seem to have quite a fear of open windows and fresh air in buildings....
I can't imagagine the impact of The Fog over here.
Never EVER attempt to open a window on a tram unless it is at least 30C and blazing sunshine. More than once I have been on the end of a very aggressive "tut" and a very assertive slam-shut of the offending window.
You can die from draughts, apparently.
I think I've converted my hubby, now that he's had 3 years living with me and hasn't been sick any more than usual.
Alas, the OP wouldn't be any happier with me as I really hate to be hot, even the least bit. So, even sitting here at a mere 15°C, I have the windows and terrace door open, even though it means I have to wear long pants, slippers and a cozy old sweatshirt.
In front of mrs. G and I at the security line there was a woman wearing a leather jacket with fur collar..... the inspector told her to take that off....
under that she was wearing a scarf and no less than 4 hoodies, which she took off one at a time ( don't worry dear, we only have a plane to catch !! ) until she got down to Tshirt level.
Quite right. During those times of year when you would want to open a window -- spring and summer, perhaps -- then "es zieht" and they want it all closed.
Thank GOD I now share the same office with just one coworker, an American, who agrees with me on this. So much comfortable for me than the cold-loving German who was there before.
Thats too much even for me. I can understand the feeling though
It is spring!!!
I get to work early and open all the windows , they arrive later and shut them all before they dare take their coats off ...I have no say in the matter .....but it drives me nuts !!!!
They might be right.. Being from Norway, I have been brought up fully aware of the dangers of the draught.
The rule goes as follows:
-A breeze (outside) is healthy and good for you.
-Airing out a room (opening only one window) is ok.
-A draught on the other hand, meaning two or more windows open on opposite sides of the house, creating an airflow through the hous, and "indoor breeze" is you will, is sure to kill you off almost instantly.
No idea why this is, but my grandmother told me so, so it must be true.
