11 yr old B-day party-- Truth or Dare.... Just how wrong is this dare?

Ok... just heard from a friend..... her daughter attended an 11 year old girl's birthday party and the dare was to eat dog food!

The mother of the Birthday girl organized the game and came up with the dares she wrote down on pieces of paper.

Her daughter was encouraged in front of the kids at the party by the b-day girl's mother to eat the dog food.

Birthday guest therefore felt pressure to eat it and didn't tell her parents what happened at the party.

Other party guests (kids) ended up telling their parents and now everyone is understandably disgusted.

After confronting the mother of the b-day girl, she laughed it off and insists, 'No Big Deal'

How wrong is that?!??!!?!?!! Or am I overreacting?

Need to hear opinions. Please..............

Thanks. Excellent idea for my kids' next parties!

Yes

If it is a punishment then it is of course suitable. I don't like my kids to make a habit of eating the pet food but sometimes it can't be helped especially if it's a really good brand.

Is this food made from dogs, or food for dogs? The former sounds yummy but the latter probably didn't taste particularly nice - not that it would cause any harm.

canned or dry?

kibbles or bits?

I don't think it is harmfull, but I certainly wouldn't want my kid to eat dog food.

The mother of the girl should prove its no big deal by eating a spoonful of Chum herself.

My two youngest keep trying to eat our dog's dry food, so it must taste good!

They both managed to eat quite a fair amount of it, and are still alive.

Considering that my daughter refuses to touch anything that looks remotely like a vegetable, I find her love for dog food quite hilarious!

The appropriate EF reaction if of course that the dog needs this food more than you. It is not for playing

Ok: serious response. It's not going to do her any harm, and was likely a small dry dog biscuit, but at the same time it is very weird for a mother at a party to do that, not only because, well, it's just weird , but also because other kids can remember things like this and make the dog food eating kids life a misery for the next 5 years with all sorts of inventive nicknames.

We just need to wait on (the other) Tom to provide you the best recipe - or perhaps to recommend you only buy dog food from Ticino

(I remember making "pate" sandwiches for another bunch of teenagers back in the day)

Umm. Really. Is dog food fit for human consumption?

I had understood not, but then I don't have a dog so wouldn't know. However if that is the case, however small, the children have been exposed to food that is not be suitable for human consumption and all that that entails.

While I agree that there isn't a need to freak out, I do think that it is inappropriate to have fed them dog food. Duty of care etc etc.

Based on what people are bitching about elsewhere - Swiss made dog food should be fine, as the meat that is used to make it will be the meat that is sold in Supermarkets in the US/UK/other superior country of origin.

The mother has clearly been watching that nonsense on the English TV .. Celebrity jungle or something.

For those who's wife doesn't watch it, they get some long forgotten or completely unknown tv persons to eat things like pigs anus whilst dressed in clown outfits and they sleep outside in Australia somewhere.

I've made kids eat worms (spaghetti) maggots (rice) and lots of bodily fluids, (think ketchup, jelly, jam ettc) AND dogfood......... pate in reality.

Having audited a few dog food factories in my day, I'd say no you are not over reacting. And for anyone who thinks otherwise all it would take is to see the offel trucks from the butcher/slaughterhouses coming into the factory to change their mind.

Issue was further complicated and magnified by the fact the mother knew the 12 year old who was dared to eat the dog food has scoliosis and wears a brace! Really!?!?!!!!!

Oh.... right and the fact the child had brain surgery couple years ago, meaning they had to shave her long hair off, long recovery, gets put into special needs class..............

Are you looking for a place to vent, steps on what to do next, or none of the above?
