There is one near where I live. A friend just moved out while it’s very convenient her apartment had cost more than double her new one which is slightly larger.
Honestly, I think it would work well for young singles too. They might even pay a premium for the social events and network/community.
Of course I was against a 13th payment for everyone that we do not know how to finance. Are you happy your VAT will go up to finance that even for people that have a high total pension? Makes no sense at all…
They also pay VAT.
Sure but what is the point giving these people even more money and not helping more those on low salaries? But anyway… That vote passed so be it
Swiss pensions are a commercial arrangement where the size of your pension is based on yyour payments into the scheme, it is no sort of social scheme to help the poorest. Maybe it should be, I don’t know.
That is correct for pillar 2. Pillar 1 (AHV) was designed to enable a basic standard of living in retirement, including for those on low salaries. Nowadays poorer people with long working histories are reliant on additional social service pay-outs particularly if they require rest-home treatment. The money for the 13th month should not be an issue. It is a political decision as to where it comes from.
The 1st pillar is not indexed to inflation and it hasn’t been adjusted for years. Even if it had Swiss inflation doesn’t include health insurance costs. Adding a month to the year does not compensate for this. Likely in 10 years we’ll be asking for a 14th montn.
But I thought the Pillar 1 was increasing each year?
The AHV is supposed to inflation adjusted:
https://www.admin.ch/gov/de/start/dokumentation/medienmitteilungen.msg-id-92733.html
The reality is that health and rent price increases in the last 20-30 years have meant that this has no longer taken place. Some of this is down to the real costs that people experience rather than the official inflation figures. Inflation for a 25 year old needs a different calculation than inflation for a 65 year old.
And is for singles maximum Fr. 2450/month (AHV), no matter how much you paid in. So yes, it is a sort of a social scheme.
This is so not true and I’m beginning to wonder about your arguing.
No inflation adjustment for AHV pensions in 2024
There will be no change to the inflation adjustment on AHV pensions. In future, pensions will continue to be adjusted every two years in line with price and wage developments, based on the arithmetic mean of the price and wage index (mixed index). The last adjustment took place on January 1, 2023 with an increase of CHF 30 in the minimum pension and CHF 60 in the maximum pension. The AHV pensions will therefore not be increased in 2024. An annual increase is only planned if the annual inflation rate is above 4 percent.
Every 2 years, see my post
I don’t buy their inflation numbers and a 1% (annual) increase is insignificance.
That’s fine then.
I let you bask in your depressional anger or angry depression about widower’s rent, AHV and what ever else is in the mix.
From 1st January 2025, old age and disability pensions will increase by 2.9% in Switzerland. The government is raising the minimum pension by CHF35 ($41.50) to CHF1,260.
On January 1, 2025, the maximum AHV pension will increase by CHF 840 per year.
I’m told this is very common in the Netherlands as it has a high marriage penalty (and I guess the Dutch are pretty open-minded so don’t bat an eyelid at living together without being married).
That doesn’t compute, the maximum increases from 2450 to 2520.
Oops, actually it does.
Per year vs per month
by Fr. 910 actually. Fr. 70.00 a month to make the comparison to the lowest AHV more visible.
Although that article you linked was allegedly updated 26.10.2024 they did not bother calculating with the 13th month. Not your fault marton but does not speak for smolio.
Where in the western world does anybody bat an eyelid at that for the past 40+ decades? No where I come from anyway.
