180 days rule

I'm about to apply for my extension with Kanton Basel, and once I get it, I plan to

travel for 6 months in Australia and NZ starting January 2023. I will then return to spend the rest of the 6 months in CH. In this 180 day period, can I still visit the Schengen area for short holidays, or will that be counted as days spent outside of CH?

While there's no border control, the airlines obviously have a record. Now, I'm probably complicating this, but wanted to check if anyone knows how this 180 days works within the Schengen zone.

Also, if you stay beyond the 180 days outside of Switzerland, it says the C-permit is automatically cancelled. Does that mean that even if I miss it by a day or two, that my permit wouldn't work on re-entry or would I only find out later by notification, or 5 years later when I go to renew my permit again?

Thanks!

90 days out of a revolving 180.

Tom

Not for people with a C permit Tom.

I think it is right away, if they catch you. Yes, even by a day or two. Chances are low that they will, but never in a million years would I play with that and wait to find out.

Think C Permit is 180 days in 365 rule max

How does this work with travel within the Schengen? Is this tracked or counted in any way?

Or would short holiday there there not count if centre of life is here.

But mainly curious to know if there's a way they count Schengen days as well

Out of the country is out of the country. Although much more difficult to track.

But if they ask you, you‘d need to provide evidence you were here and not outside of Switzerland?

I suspect if they think you broke the rules the onus will be on you to prove you didn’t.

Thank you. I have every intention of spending the rest of the 180 days here, but am always a bit stressed that I will make a mistake and miss a few days by traveling to the Schengen and forgetting.

Than you all for your inputs!

How can you accidentally forget to not leave the country? 🤯

However go out by car or train for a couple of days and you’ll not have your passport swiped, I would not risk flying.

No guarantee of that. I had my passport swiped at Buchs during a Customs (not immigration) check when returning from skiing in Austria. Also on the rare occasions of customs checks at the Crassy border crossing, I’ve been asked for ID.
