3D printing question

Hi all

I need to find a replacement for a plastic part (a shield for a hedge trimmer) that I can no longer buy so I’m wondering if 3d printing is an option

This is how the shield looks like - it’s about 20cm tall and 15cm wide

Now I don’t need to make an exactly identical copy, it only needs to match the base screw holes and somewhat follow the shape of the original. But it needs to be a bit sturdy to protect from bumps on branches, etc

Anyone has any idea if this can be 3D printed somehow economically? Mind you, a replacement trimmer is not more than 70-80 chuffs…

Check in your Gemeinde – there are local Vereins that are locally supported and are ‘repair clubs’ for the people living in the city (or village). Where I live, they have a 3D printer (and even a 3D scanner!); for a little fee, you can go there, present the problem, and a voluntary expert will do that for you - for free, or for a small fee.

If you’ve still got the old bits then it would be cheaper/easier to buy some
epoxy adhesive and stick it back together.

Tried glueing it, didn’t hold… the plastic is too old and became brittle

ah! I have another idea…

As someone with a 3D printer, I’d say: get a piece of metal, bend it and drill a couple of holes through it (or attach via a block of wood if necessary).

Assuming you still have the pieces you might be able to try gluing it again, but this time use a catalyst so that it dries quicker and harder. Look up the ingredients on youtube.
