A directory of Swiss charitable organisations that accept non-monetary donations

Hello all,

I thought here is a good place to introduce my idea. Hope it is fine.

It happens more than often that we have spare items or canned food that we no longer use, and on the other hand don’t think at all they should be thrown away. I have always had difficulty finding the right organisation to donate spare items, which is also closeby. Therefore, I decided to create a database of all places in Switzerland where you can donate (canned) food, household appliances, furniture, and other non-monetary items.

After some barebone experiments, I created some (hopefully) more decent UI and a website: https://goods2give.ch/

Goods2Give allows choosing a postal code and the type of item you want to donate, to see a list of nearby charitable organisation accepting your donation.

I am counting on a crowdsourced effort to help complete the database. I appreciate if anyone can help complete this database by sending a feedback in the website, contacting me directly, or posting here.

All your feedback is more than welcome. And sorry for the UI of the website. Frontend development is not my top expertise, but I'm learning and working on that too.

Good initiative. You might want to add a distance filter. For Nyon, recommendations for Zürich aren’t realistic.

Thanks. I will. Currently, it's just the closest 10 places sorted by distance, which may cause a Zürich location get listed for Nyon.

Another issue in your case is that there are much less places I could find in Romandie than in the other side of the country.

L'Abbé Pierre who started Emmaus ( french speaking)in Carouge( Ge) is a great charity; e.g.they come and get your donated furniture with a van by appointment.Other donations too.
