Hi All - Live in Zurich, and am looking to buy good quality bedding and crockery across the border. Any tips - we bought our furniture from Seipp across the border and like the lower prices there (compared to Switz!).
Go to Freiburg or Stuttgart and check out Breuninger.
They have some great stuff.
Personally, German crockery is not really my thing though. Too strict, too white, too unimaginative and all the same. I prefer the Spanish style. Hop on the train to Barcelona and check out the Corte Ingles. I don't know how much you're planning to spend but you could easily save enough on the prices to pay for the trip (and make a nice weekend out of it with Catalan food, breakfast on the Ramblas etc). You'll never shop for crockery in Germany again.
Germany has two chain department stores. Karstadt and Galleria Kaufhof. The latter is usually a bit cheaper, but otherwise they're virtually identical. They do homewares. Service isn't quite up to JL's level, and the prices are cheaper than here (Switzerland) but not as low as the UK.
