Hi! Not sure if best place to post this is here or in the Taxation forum, but oh well.
Has anyone Non-EU applied for an A1 certificate (or needed their job applying)? Did you manage to get one?
Right now, I am not self-employed (cannot be until I get B permit, we're on a "long-term L", i.e. first two years) and so cannot apply for that certificate. So when I've had short-term contracts in France, they have collected (at source) both French taxes and French social contributions. I was just looking into doing this through one of my Swiss part-time employers next time, but then I see that in principle, the A1 certificate "concerns only EU/EEA/CH nationals".
So, no possibility of being subject to Swiss social contributions when working in other countries (even if it's work for my Swiss employer, for instance) when you're Non-EU? Always have to pay those countries' contributions?
In the context of relations between Switzerland and EU member states, Form A1 applies to Swiss or EU nationals.
For relations between Switzerland and EFTA countries, Form A1 applies to nationals of Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
Third-country nationals - outside Switzerland, the EU or EFTA - do not fall within the scope of Form A1 in the context of relations between Switzerland and the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway."
Yes, that is precisely where I found that it doesn't apply to Non-EU people. But when I talked to my AHV office here, they didn't seem to know that (they said I should get one once I'm registered as independent, even though they knew I'm not Swiss or EU), hence my question of whether anyone here managed to still get one.
I guess then the next question is, is there some mechanism for something similar for Non-EU people? It's not the end of the world of course, just would be better to contribute in Switzerland, than contributing into retirement and vacation funds I can't ever collect.
