Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some nice big (>50cm x 150cm) sheets of plexiglass, acrylic or similar?
I need to hang a poster on a wall (original, signed, star wars cinema poster) and want to shove it into a frameless frame... but couldn't find one big enough.
So I've grabbed some standoff bolts from ali, but now need the two sheets... and coop bau & hobby only goes up to 50cm wide
Almost certain that Bauhaus in Schlieren have sheets that big (well, bigger, but they can cut them down) and I think large Jumbo's out of town will have 1.5 x 1.0m.
For that size you will need 5mm thick minimum and 6 (or even 8) bolts to avoid too much warping. But if you want a seriously profi look then you should use glass. I know Jumbo at Hardbrucke can order glass cut to size with holes drilled and polished edges - with glass you will only need 4 bolts. Perspex or acrylic will scratch with cleaning over time, glass will look great for many years. (I used to run an exhibition display and framing company in the UK so know all about it!)
For the larger poster (the star wars one, which has started this whole thing) I may put mdf behind rather than perspex... also because I can't figure out how to hang the perspex! At least with mdf I can countersink a clip...
Now have decided to also frame/hang the other things I've had lying about for years in the cellar
Did you checkout the picture framing services offered by Bauhaus and Hornbach. I assume they have 'picture glass' which is thin and light.
Had a glass sheet made at Jumbo, was over 100chf (140 I think) for a piece roughly 40cm x 1m. Wanted to add a glass top to a piece of furniture, so that post card etc.. could be displayed under the glass.
