I am a 6 years experienced IT professional. My husband has relocated to Switzerland. Unfortunately, the technology I am experienced in is not quite used in Switzerland. Hence, I am planning to take up an MBA that could help me move from technical to managerial track. I have researched some B schools in Switzerland. Definately the best being IMD and St. gallen. However, they are way out of my budget. Hence looking for an affordable mba programme.
Please let me know from the following which would help me gain some job opportunities in Switzerland:
1. Business school Lausanne.
2. Swiss Business school , zurich
3. Hec lausanne. ( this seems to be pretty good but they offer a part time emba. I would not be employed while attending this programme. Hence too skeptical on selecting this programme.)
hey thanks for the great suggestion. Not sure if I could move or study in germany with the B permit of Switzerland. Please let me know if you have any idea about the switzerland b schools.
If you dont think you can afford an MBA then try Master of Science in management programs in St. Gallen. They are very good, have a good reputation and waaaayyyyyy cheaper than an MBA.
Frankly, if you consider a job in Switzerland, they would definitely help, even as much as an MBA would.
hey... Thanks ... Masters is definitely a good one...i had initially thought about the same ... But later heard that after 6 - 7 years of IT experience a Master's would not really be an add on to my resume... Anyways thanks for the suggestion... Wow its indeed a small amount compared to the mba fees
heya.... The location , fees are really great. But is the emba good enough to startup with job opportunities in switzerland? Is there anyone you know who has taken up this programme??
heya....fhnw seems good from location , fees perspective. Any idea if it is good enough for a job in switzerland? Any reviews on the emba programme here??
Why not take advantage of your IT experience by moving into "Business Information systems"? Become a hybrid with an IT hat and a business hat. There seem to be lots of jobs & good salaries. HEC at Lausanne has a suitable MSc. There may be others in Switzerland.
I only know because my son will go down this road, having decided that a life of coding is not for him.
OK, so currently, most jobs of that kind seem to be in Zurich.
But it seems people are still hiring in that area of expertise - and IBM is still selling them, last time I looked (though, I must admit, I really wonder who buys them and what those thingies can do that a decent Unix box can't do...)
And MBA is a Masters: Master's in Business Administration.
As other have said, if it's not a top MBA it's not going to bring you any more advantage then a regular Masters. So you might as well do something that interests you and/or related to your work/profession.
MBAs are a dime a dozen these days. If you're going to do one go to a top school its worth the price. There's a reason some MBAs are cheap its because they don't offer a real USP in the market place. This means having one doesn't make you stand out. You pay a premium for top MBA which will differentiate you in the market place. Having an MBA is not a substitute for real management experience. However having an MBA from a top school will get an employers attention because of the schools reputation for teaching excellence etc.
How about a "consecutive masters" in either International Management or Business Information Systems? The FHNW offer both, full-time and part-time and the fees are more like Bachelor degree fees (around 800 CHF per semester including course materials and 600 CHF over the 1.5 years full-time for other costs).
With regard to career prospects, it's very much what you make it. Companies will be interested in you if you have good marks, have created your profile and proven yourself in an internship (get a good reference, etc), and have written a good masters thesis.
