While politicians want to protect children in the digital space, another age group is coming into focus. The media literacy of senior citizens is now up for debate in the EU Parliament. :rofl: :rofl:

They’d only be one or two people on this forum at most if they banned oldies from social media!

Recently, the EU Commission revealed the KIDS Act to ban children under 13YO to access social media, 13 to 15 YO with parents’ approval , and 15 YO independent.

This is a proposal that will go into a loooong discussion and approval process. If something comes up at the end, expect it by end of 2027

EDIT. the big question is how to verify the age. The EU has something called the EU Digital Identity Wallet, an electronic ID.

Back to Switzerland, the e-ID is expected to work next year. Age verification for social media could be one the first applications.

Quite the point.

The only way compatible with data privacy I see is a service that answers questions like “older than 13?”, possibly with increased granularity.

You don’t need to hand out the data to answer this type of request.
