Someone has just sent me this video (edit: supposedly of George Will):
In the blurb under the video, it says:
How this was made
Altered or synthetic content
Sound or visuals were significantly edited or digitally generated. Learn more
This suggests that the guy is AI-generated and presumably the other videos with him on the channel. There are just 11 videos on the channel, all with the same guy, the oldest video from just 3 weeks ago. Channel supposedly has 57.6k subscribers.
One of the comments (most very positive and streaming in) under the video:
Y’all sure this isn’t A.I.? Seriously, something abt the way he blinks looks off to me. And why wasn’t the footage he was referring to shown? THIS is how we are being divided! While they’re feeding this to one side, they’re feeding the other side something else. PLEASE GUYS…BE AWARE!
I might not have been suspicious of this video if I hadn’t seen this, which includes a very useful tip on how to check the blurb under a video. The example of an AI-generated video she shows refers to “AI” in the blurb, but the one above doesn’t, instead saying “digitally generated”.
Of course, current state-of-the-art AI video is already much better than what is shown here. I’ve been following closely so am used to what to look out for, but I’m not a video specialist and for sure there are videos that will catch me out.
After 2,3 or 5 videos. It’s easy to deceive in a 30s short. But, no one can lie consistently for a long time.
Also, real people need money and will ask for it via patreon or something similar. People hiding behind AI sticks to youtube money.
Finally, trust your gut. Stop a video and block to your heart’s content. The world is big and full of fish, just look for the next one. Even if you mistake something legit for fraud, practically nothing is lost.
