AI in the Swiss confessional

Visitors to the oldest church in Lucerne, Switzerland, have had conversations with an AI-powered hologram of Jesus.

The conversations took place in the church’s confessional and the hologram was visible through a diagonal lattice screen.

But the conversations do not count as confessions, the church has made clear.

AI Jesus hologram chats with visitors in church confessional.

This is really gimmicky.

There are some similarities between seeing a psychologist and going to confession. Both want you to reflect upon your actions and become a better person. Of course the methods are very different but both depend on talking to a person who is bound to secrecy.

Perhaps having a hologram will bring Catholics back to the confessional. I haven’t had to pray three Hail Marys and two Our Fathers for decades.

As if religions wern’t already one of the biggest problem causing things in the world.
Trump will find incredible use for such a hologram. There will soon be one of Mohammed. Personally concratulating the martyrs.

An art installation. Right. Shouldn’t it be the religious groups first to not allow that?
“Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, the likeness of any form that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:.” I would have guessed that goes for a talking Jesus too.

What can I say to that as a non religious person? Lord help us. :woman_facepalming:

No, not Mohammed. Even as satire it wouldn’t last two days. Not something to lose your head over.
