Air conditioner repair

There is a "split" air conditioner in one room of our new house in Vaud, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know of a company that repairs air conditioners? They seem to be pretty rare. Thanks in advance.

It would help to have the brand name and the model name/number (if you can find it). Someone might be able to Google a company that services that brand here in VD.

Often in CH, the installation company will put a sticker on the machine (whatever it happens to be - in this case an AC unit) with their name and phone number. When you are looking for the other details have a look for this as well (underside, top, sides etc. - inside and outside).

does it make noise and what kind , Fan ? compressor? ,Does it cool a little or not at all?

Thanks for the responses. It is a Chigo air conditioner, which I gather is a Chinese brand. I tried Googling first in search of a repair company but had no luck -- hence my query on the English Forum. I also opened the unit in search of a helpful label before posting but again without any luck.

Who installed it? Is the house yours and did it come with the house (i.e. perhaps the previous owner had it fitted) or are you renting, in which case ask the landlord?

It cools not at all. I suspect that the motherboard needs to be replaced, if not the entire unit.

It is my house, so no landlord. The unit was installed by the first owner. I bought it from the second. I have no idea who installed it, unfortunately.

Might have no Freon. Does it run?

Hence my question http://www.englishforum.ch/images/smilies/eek.gif

does the condensing unit run ,the indoor evaporator fan .Does it has power to it ?

We never heard back from the OP on what happened.

In any event, in case the split AC unit can not be repaired or is too expensive, Aldi is running an offer as of May 3rd of a Samsung unit for CHF 2'499.-

The unit (A++) looks quite good. Free home delivery. 3 year guarantee and 3 year in home service. As with everything at Aldi the product will be in and out, so if interested don't wait too long.

Many thanks for this. It does look good. Does Aldi install as well as deliver? Split AC units really aren’t DIY items. (Never received any tips on servicing the current unit.)

I do not think that Aldi has an installation service.

I would think that since you are "just" replacing a unit with another that the hard work (holes, wiring etc.) has been done already. I would think a competent DYI person (who works at DYI for a living) should be able to do the install (as long as they can read the FR installation instructions).

Probably correct. Many thanks!

The following company installed our Aircon over 10 years ago. We have an annual service contract with them.

They certainly do what is on the tin, no complaints. They are always trying to get us to upgrade to something better but don't push too hard - that is the only moan I have about them.

They do house calls to Nyon area ...

This is extremely helpful. Many thanks! I will call them. Much appreciated.

The Aldi unit you can buy for less than half the price in Germany (and probably France too). Many new units come pre-gassed so are DIYable. Those that aren't will need charging before use so will require an AC professional.

If all the fans and compressor work then it's likely a leak in the cooling system. If not it could be a bad (and replaceable) motor capacitor (or the fan motor needs a bit of a kick to get it started)

I had seen the FR and DE options as well but given the OP's current situation and the 3 year guarantee and in-home service that Aldi offers I decided not to mention it.

If the name given by bowlie does not work out, the OP could call the number below to find out who they use for the service on the unit. You would need a DE or FR speaking person to call the number. You should get an answer for who handles things in the Nyon area.

Thank you. I will explore repairing the current system before investing in a new one.
