Open windows are not recommended if you live in an area likely to be a criminal target.
yea, but who wants to live without windows? Winter is already hard enough for me when there isn’t enough natural light so blinds down, artificial light all days long
such advice is like: instead of installing air conditioning move to the basement, it’s always chill there

Why would you? Shade is enough, no need to black out and turn the lights on.

Nope. Mainly thinking of the middle solution which is the most common around here. In summer you only need the slats to be horizontal or at most slightly tipped to keep the sun out.
