Air ions, static electric, 'witches winds', 'murder winds' and 'diminshed sex drive'

For years I've taken an interest in the ions in the air that account for static electricity and their reputed beneficial and ill effects on health. I first read about these in the early 80's from a book by Fred Soyka called The Ion Effect. This is from Jean-Yves Cote book - Ion Miracle :

"the suicide rate goes up during the foehn, and in the courts of some Swiss cantons the wind is considered a mitigating circumstance for crime."

From Wikipedia, Fohn Winds

Apparently, these effects are caused by an excess of positive air ions (missing an electron) and the depletion of negative air ions (having an extra electron) in the associated winds. An electron is a region of energy, so positive ions are deficient in energy, and negative ones have an excess.

It is as if, if the air is depleted of negative ions, it takes takes energy from you, making you feel tired. If the air is charged with negative ions, you benefit from them. Water falls, sea breezes, etc, are considered good sources of negative ions.

You can make your own negative ions by indoor water fountains or air ionizers.

She cannae take any moar, Cap'n, she's going tae blow.

If you make your onw negative ions, where do the electrons come from?

Not the electricity.

And where do the positive left overs end up?

When I was at college in Wales it was extremely wet and windy - I mean, it was Wales.

The sex drive of me and my class mates certainly wasn't diminished. Just the opposite, nothing much else to do, I mean it was Wales.

Does this mean we had ion free wind there?

If so, maybe there's a market for the Welsh like flogging the ion-free air to other less fortunate countries like Switzerland? Or at least trying the tourist angle - "Come to Wales, we might have the worst weather in the world but we're ion free, butty".

Interesting question!

Where does anything come from?

Everything is energy, as energy can't be created or destroyed, where did it come from?

It's a property of water - negative ions seem to be created when winds blow over sees, or when water flows or falls from heights. Positive ions seem to be associated with dry winds.

Water is not just water though, there are hidden messages in water

This thread is way rad! I have been trying to follow a moon calendar this year due to its proven effects on water as well. As human beings are up 75% water, it makes sense that the moon also effects our functions and behaviors!

The calendar is really interesting - days are noted when it's best to cut your hair, cut your nails, do a facial, exercise, pay attention to snacking, etc...

I have the Hidden Messages In Water book, too. Sometimes I write out positive words on a post-it and stick them to my bottle of water so that the water can absorb the positivity of the words before I drink it. This tip was given to me by a friend and I pass it on to ye of the EF.

Energy - the more I spend, the more my levels of it increase!

I can attest to once being caught unexpectedly in a downpour of rain and feeling as if all my problems were washed away. There is definitely something to the negative ions!

Ummmm. . . . .I gotta ask. How does the moon and the fact that we're 75% water relate in anyway to when a persons hair should be cut?

Ever read "Supernature" by Lyall Watson? It was quite an eyeopener and an enjoyable read even though most of it was complete crap.

sounds like some of our EF-ers will soon be dancing naked around aged stones . Or something....

There is an ancient belief that all human activity should be done in step with lunar cycles - so you saw seeds at certain times, take cuttings at certain times - according to this belief they would grow better then other times (better when the moon is 'young', or just 'born'). Just as tides rise, the water in us and in other things responds to lunar cycles - possibly.

With cutting hair, again they would advice on cutting the hair when the moon is dying, rather then when it is young and growing. I believe some Buddhists sects arrange their head shaving days in accordance to lunar cycles!

Whether there is any truth to this or not, one would need to conduct tests to see.

Oh can we pretty please???

The Klingons are on our tail...

Bio-Dynamic farming stands by this approach. It's a growth market.

However, I'm with Scotty: "I cannae change the laws of Physics, Jim"

If the air really was stripping electrons out of you, you'd be feeling a bit more than tired. Not to mention that nearly everyone would be suffering from some

sort of cancer due to the disruption from all those extra ions knocking about in your system...
