Ale - for traditional Christmas Pudding!

I know I am a little late but October quickly became November and now December is very close I am just about to make my Christmas Pudding!

The recipe say's I need strong Ale. I usually use a traditional strong Ale from the UK and last year I managed to find a bottle of Guiness here and my Christmas pud was great. This year I have been on the search for strong Ale and I have come up with the following:

Engel Bock - HELL

Engel - HEFEWEIZEN HELL

Both of these look a bit on the light side. I was expecting a much darker liquid, Can anyone tell me if these are Ales or can you suggest something else I should be using!

Many thanks as usual

If you want Guinness larger COOP's sell it

Definitely Guinness or Murphy's Irish Stout - I have fond memories of my mum making Christmas puds every year in Ireland when I was a child and it was my job to pour in the stout!

I think you can find both in the 'foreign beer' section at Coop. Happy pud-making - and eating!

Sam Smiths Oatmeal or Imperial Stout. Both strong black beers from Yorkshire, the oatmeal is sweeter and would suit an Xmas pud well. Nut Brown Ale may also suit.

From the Rappi Bier Factory, Big Black would also work well.

(and I sell them all at the Viadukt Markthalle BTW )

Thanks! This is my great Grand Mother's recipe and it from Ireland too!

I have had a selection of Sam Smith's from you before at one of the expat fayres!

Leshop do a very dark Appenzeller beer that works perfectly well for Beer in Stout sort of recipes, that might do.

Did you try Beers of the World in Shopville Zürich Hbf?

Failing that, pop down to the Gregory Pub at Militar Langstrasse Bus stop. The Manager Rudi has always got Bombadier in there, and he had some Old Speckled Hen last week, plus a selection of strong Belgian Christmas beers and one German
