With the Revolut standard account you can get 2 separate physical cards which share the same account(s). You can also install the app on multiple devices so more than one person can operate/validate transactions, etc. This effectively makes it a shared account...
Also, revolut do not allow you to open two accounts... so either you share your primary account.... or nada
But re rentals, not sure what the current situation is but Revolut cards are essentially "prepaid" "debit" cards and not "credit" cards and may not be accepted in some rental places (or at least there were issues in the past). I don't know what the situation is now but my general recommendation would be not to rely on Revolut as your single source of finance when travelling abroad - always have a backup card issued by a "traditional" bank
That's exactly what we are trying to avoid
Surely there's an alternative to revolut?
That seems rather unlikely in these paranoid times.
That said, they also charge ~200 bucks a year, customer service is meh, and the app is useless.
I was hoping one of the mobile banks like N26, Revolut, etc would do this, but I can't seem to find one sadly... Looks like we are stuck with traditional banks.
Nor could I use it while flying, because there was no internet connection.
I think Swisscard offer a few free cards...we have the cashback account which is definitely free and includes an additional card holder.
In fact we usually get paid +300chf per year in cashback as we use it for all Swiss spending.
We have no issues with the app and as everything is paid automatically via direct debit we've never had to use any customer service so no complaints at all.
I would not however use it for non-CHF spending due to the fees and poor exchange rate. Using it for hotel/car hire deposits is fine but not for settling the final bill.
When traveling outside Switzerland I usually use my Wise card. Great exchange rate and a low fee @ c. 0.3% per transaction for major currency pairs.
