Alternative to Skype ??

We use Skype to communicate with family / friends during the weekends.

Most of the time : Skype sucks !

Does anyone know good alternative to Skype (Aged people should also find it easy to use).

Facetime?

http://www.apple.com/ios/facetime/

I do not know much about it.

It seems to suggest it as an apple product, but I am pretty sure I used it once on my laptop (not a mac) when a friend on Facebook called me through facebook on it. I am sure it was the same thing.

Facetime works only between Crapple products.

Google Hangouts ( http://www.google.com/+/learnmore/hangouts/ ) works well for me,

Oh really?

Is there a similar thing via facebook then? As I say, I was on my laptop one evening, not an appled product, and my friend told me to check this thing out. I may have downloaded it, pretty sure it was called facetime though and we had a skype like call via facebook, where could both see each other.

I'll try find out what the hell that was then.

EDIT:

Quickly looking on FB, think maybe its just a video call option. The fact Facebook has the word Face in it might be where I got confused.

But hey, its an option if you are on facebook to do video calls. Only tested it once, but it worked great.

Define "Skype sucks"!!??

I use truphone no desktop app but works on mobiles and uses mobile phone book.

I use Skype for video calls and provided that the other person has a good connection to the internet, the calls are perfect. Are you sure the issue is Skype and not your internet provider, band width, computer equipment etc?

I use Vsee ( www.vsee.com )

Its much better than skype for video and voice quality.

You can also do other things like share desktop like if you want to show some pictures without sharing this works fast. Also has video chat recorder.

I was going to say the same thing. We have decent internet and Skype works well for us. If your internet connection (or the one at the other end) is poor, changing app or programme won't help.

We use Google Hangouts exclusively for group chats with our grown kids in 3 different states - terrific tool. Never had a problem with voice or picture. On our phones (iPhones), we use "Viber" - free calls and texts (over Wifi or unlimited 3G plans) - Voice Over IP - super clear. I believe this app is now available for Android as well. Also when using a VPN based in the states, we can call non-Apple products or landlines via Google for nothing.

"a friend" has one like this

I tried it once and it was good for voice calls.

You need to be aware though that the receiver needs to have one to.

Well you are assuming that he has a connection/connectivity/perf problem.

The guy just said "Skype sucks", you don't know why.

Maybe Skype sucks because of their terms and conditions, because they "monitor", etc...

Indeed, i'm 85% sure that the OP has some connectivity problem, but I wanted that person to say it, not that assuming anything (even if almost obvious).

So let's get information from the OP, then we will suggest something adequate.

Tango is good.download it for Android

You mean like a telephone?

how about viber, works on apple and android.

Viber desktop version is a good alternative to skype for video calls.

Viber, yahoo messenger, google+, fring, nimbuzz, mobile VoIP... There are plenty WhatsApp for chat...

Do you know which of these services are not filtered from the NSA? All of them?

What are you worried about the NSA hearing?
