Ambulance cost

So, I know that the basic health insurance only covers half of ambulance call outs for health reasons, up to a limit and with an extra annual limit. I added accident insurance to my health insurance some time ago and thought that it would cover an ambulance call out in the event of an accident but it seems it doesn't fully - only to 50% like before. The insurance company say that the Grundversicherung only pays half. Is the accident insurance deemed to also be 'Grundversicherung'? If not I'm a bit confused what the accident insurance is for.

If you have an accident insurance as part of basic insurance, all normal basic insurance conditions (franchise, etc) apply. If your accident insurance is covered by an employer, it will be a completely different story.

Accident insurance is to pay your medical costs if you have an accident. Without this insurance, you have to pay your own medical costs.

Grundversicherung pays medical costs for ill health, not accidents.

If one is not employed, then the Grundversicherung also covers accidents (for a small extra cost). As IFL mentions, in such a case the accident coverage will have the same conditions as for illnesses.

Accident coverage by the employer is usually much better. One can easily include/exclude accident coverage by the basic health insurance in case of change in employment status.

Was not aware Basic insurance pays anything related to ambulance

It does, this thread prompted me to check-out the details:
