I have 31.9K AA miles expiring in Jan. I have no use for them and offering them up to anyone interested, specially given the holiday season coming up.
Looking at the AA website, they dont allow ‘free’ transfers any more and lowest unit of transfer is 1K miles for a charge of USD 5. So, transfer of 31K miles would cost $155.
If you want to cover this cost directly (payable to American Airlines) and transfer 31K miles to you or someone else, DM me.
If you don’t get anyone taking you up on your offer, perhaps consider donating the miles. AA has a program where you donate your miles to specific charities.
I don’t think there is any cost to you to do so. At least there wasn’t years ago when I got rid of my AA miles, and from a quick read of the website it looks like that is still the case. I didn’t log in to read further, though, which you should probably do.
You can also see if there is a way of extending the miles. With other airlines, if you use/donate part of it, the expiry resets. Same if you buy something with a partner and earn some points.
I dont know what they are worth in terms of USD/CHF. I left it up to the individual to figure that out (e.g. compare the USD 155 cost vs cost of a ticket on AA, perhaps even combined with their own AA miles?, specially the upcoming holidays, etc).
In my experience, AA miles (even as part of Oneworld alliance) it’s much easier and cheaper to spend on AA flight/booking than any of the partner airlines (limitations and additional terms and conditions on partner airlines).
Looking at the AA Advantage website, if seemed to me that purchasing from one of their partners required use of the AA Advantage credit card.
I have no plans nor the intention (given the current political and general attitude of the US govt agencies) in going to the US any time in the near future. Neither do I have any intention of contributing to any of their partnership arrangements. I have and am comfortable with my own.
Someone on this forum did express interest in transferring the miles to them. We are working through it now. If it does not go through, I’ll just donate the miles, as the last resort (I dont trust AA to really donate the full amount of miles on face value, but hey, what can I do?).
