Americano grapes

I saw these in the store today and tried one.

What are you supposed to do with them?

They are really small with a bizarre texture and the one I tried had a couple of pretty large pips in the middle.

So you mean to infer that Americanos are a mystery to you, appear odd on the surface and are seedy to the core?

Wow!

How did they taste?

Here's some info...

I think they are used them for jelly, too. Wonder if they are like concord grapes.

They were small, very dark coloured with a sort if dusty coating. Having googled Concord grapes it does appear that they are the ones I tasted.

I'm pretty sure they're not just for eating as the one I tasted was really not very nice.

The are mostly Concords, sometimes Catawbas.

Jelly, grape juice, wine, grappa.

Ripe, fresh concord grapes are a thing of beauty. That spicy sweet taste... Ah, memories of home.

The Americanos in our Coop last week were pretty awful specimens, tasting at best like a poor subsitute. And yes, tough.

They shouldn't be.

When you find a good bunch, though....

I make a jelly (this is the traditional J in PB&J), once in a while a juice, more often a syrup. The syrup is wonderful as a base for a game sauce or a sorbet.
