ANobAG registration/Payroll with only small % work

Hi all

I have looked into the different threads regarding ANobAG vs Payroll companies for those who live in switzerland but are employed abroad. I have a C permit and am/have been working in Zurich for some time.

I am now working 70% for a swiss company, but I have been offered a fully remote position at only 20-25% from a US company with the intention of moving up to 80-100% as I wind down my Swiss job.

From what I see, there is the option of registering myself as an ANobAG and managing the tax/pension obligations myself, or leasing my services to a swiss payroll company to do everything.

My questions are

1) Can I register as an ANobAG with such a small number of hours worked? Or would the Kanton quickly reject such a thing until my work % rose?

2) If I lease myself to a swiss payroll company would I be hired directly by them or would I need to set myself up as a contractor/sole proprietorship?

3) Does anyone have good/bad experience with any specific swiss payroll companies?

thank you all for any advice!

You can register as anobag for a second job and you just tell them the expected salary.

tbh it's easier to just use a payroll company. Anobag can get complex especially depending on your nationality and where the company is located. Payrollplus in SZ are efficient and the best priced for a payroll company. They take like 2-3% of gross salary as a fee. You'll be an employee of them on the payroll, not self-employed

Hiya!

I was in the similar situation to you few years ago. was working for a CH company and also consulted for a EU/UK company.

I just registered as Anobag with SVA Zurich, there is a form on the website and take it there. you don't need an appointment. (i think you can also send by mail). they will calculate your Social Insurance and bill you monthly or quarterly (depending on the value). Since you have a C permit, its fine. I believe as long as you don't require a permit on the job its fine,

Pension wise, if you are paying through with your CH company, you don't need one for US, but double check. I was working 100% for EU company to start with I was registered with Stiftung Auffangeinrichtung BVG (I believe they are the only ones who takes ANobag) but as I got employed by a CH company and increased % work and got a pension through their provider, I was told that I no longer need one with Stiftung, as contribution though the CH company was enough.

Hi, if I live in Switzerland (B Permit) and have a fixed term job offer in France - working 80% remote in Switzerland, 20% onsite in France, from August-March. Is it better (legal) to use a payroll company? I would be a contractor with just this one employer.

I'm in this situation, that I get a small job now and then, paid by an US company. I found a company PayrollPlus, which suits this situation quite well - you can issue invoices yourself, and once paid, they pay you as side job salary. No long-term contract on either side of the business, unlike others.

Check with your bank that they’re happy for you to be receiving money from the US. That opens both them and you to FATCA reporting obligations and most banks here threw their US clients out years ago because of it.
