ANOBAG vs Payroll company

Hi all, I have the chance of a new job, but the business is not domiciled in Switzerland and will just pay a flat rate to either me or a company invoicing them (they don't care which), meaning I broadly have 2 options:

-Use a payroll company (such as Payroll plus) to invoice the business who then pays me, taking all necessary contributions

-The business pays me directly and then I register as ANOBAG and pay the social contributions directly

(Yes I know there are other options like creating a GMBH etc, but that's out of scope for now)

As I see it, the payroll company would be the least hassle, but as I'm already a long-term resident, can speak enough German to get by, I don't mind a bit of extra admin work if it will be financially beneficial to go ANOBAG

Below I put a calculation based on a payroll company (excl pension), based on 10k/month deductions would be around 1700chf / 17%.

ANOBAG I think would be: AHV (10.6%), ALV (2.2%), FAK (2%) = 14.8%

I'm slightly confused on the FAK / Family Allowance as not sure whether everyone pays that, or it's related to if you have kids.

It seems at the ANOBAG route would be exactly the same financially as payroll, but then an extra 2% for the middleman commission for the payroll company option.

Any views on the above, experiences, or recommendations on which route to take? thanks

To qualify for a family allowance, you would need children/child.

If you can pay 2% running costs, I would suggest go for it. That's very good value.

Yep am aware of the family allowance, what I meant is I was confused by seeing the requirement to pay 2% FAK / family allowance in the anobag option.

Seems indeed that 2% isnt a bad deal for a payroll option

The FAK contribution finances the family allowances. You will pay it on ANOBAG as well as on Payrol.

thanks for the info!

Hi all

a) FAK is normally paid by the employer only.

b) 200 CHF per month is CHF 2400 per year for an effort taking maybe 4-6 hours per year.

c) Do you know the benefits of the (private) insurances? As Anobag you have the choice.

Andy

Thanks for the reply: yes I will cover employer costs hence being liable for FAK it seems.

B) good point, being low effort is a plus

C) I believe some insurance like accident and illness are obligatory: with a payroll company these seem to be included as standard, but with ANOBAG I have the flexibility to organize them myself, is that what you’re driving at?

The UVG (accident) is mandatory, KTG (sickness) is not. But the firm maybe want it.

UVG: you are usually insured up to ~148K. Above this level you need to be insured with an additional insurance (UVG-Z). The price is not shared 50/50.

KTG: you have the choice of the waiting period. This is influencing the price you pay. KTG is usually paid by the employee.

Cheers

Andy
