Hi,
I look for some closure here, I am a EU Citizen (German nationality) live and work in the Canton Vaud since 2005. My last Permit "L" expired on the 31.12.2006 and I just received a new Permit today. To my very own surprise it is another "L" Permit.
Now I thought that for EU Citizen would be receiving a EU-B Permit (5 years)?
I have a work contract with no end date and still get a "L" Permit.
What can I do and does anyone know the exact description of these changes, as it when do the start and who will be entitled?
many thanks in advanced for all you info's
Dre
They do operate a quota system, but that does seem very odd to get two Ls in succession. Phone them up, and if its because of the quota system, find out when the quota period is renewed and write them a very official sounding letter saying how important the credibility of a B permit is to you and your work etc etc. I did this and it worked.

I would also like to know the answer to this,
Sam
Hi,
thanks for you answer. I am interested in to what exactly is written in these new changes for EU Members? Does anyone has a link or a written form of the exact changes? My Point goes as far as to agree with the Lady from the commune.. she said to me
"well I am as surprised as you are, thats where I start asking myself if its not all about money"
As I did paid another CHF65 for the Permit.
However I been reading some posts and there where some misleading informations. Is there a periode when the old Permit need to be expired so that I should be able to get a new EU-B Permit before the 31. May?
Isnt that the D-Day for the new Permit rules?
thanks again for you help
Dre
Hello You should not be surprised. Your permit if it were a B would be subject to quota and the authorities are not going to want that when the quota system for EU citizens is to be abolished as of 1st June 2007 ie in a very few months... The D-Day for rules is an interesting one it is 1st June actually and this is the third stage in the EU Switzerland bilateral agreement. You can find plenty of information I guess if you google for it. IF you are so keen to have one of the new permits apply for it June 1st or at least go and ask the Gemeinde how you get one then. If they are not helpful go and see them a week later and say the dog ate it!!!
http://www.geneve.ch/permis/uk/bilateraux_uk.asp This made it clear for me, i have a permit in application at the moment. i wonder if it will arrive before June 1st

SWMBO is on her 2nd "L" permit as a permie (but 3 in total from before she got a job)...
Hi, I'm a EU national (Irish) with a permanent contract here in Vaud, and I received a permit L last week, will it be possible to reapply for a B after the 1st of June.
it might be worth a punt. Do you have credit cards and a phone contract yet?
luckily I get a phone with my job, Woo Hoo
but haven't got a credit card yet, is it going to be hassle getting one on a L, Doh
No ideaif this might help anyone else butI was totally lost by the Monty Python nature of the applications for things and a permit seeming to be needed for everything then I was advised to request a "wohnsitzbestaetigung", resident permit application confirmation, cost 20CHF from Kriesburo where you register as an alien. I then attached that to absolutely everything I applied for. So inside first month in Zurich I had the bank account, a yellow post account which you use to pay for everything with, a phone in the flat, a swiss mobile phone, an internet connection, health insurance and rental agreement etc were then all sorted out.
The permit (L) still has not arrived due to 'backlogs' so I am over the 3 month limit by a long way now but Kriesburo said not to worry.
I might apply for a B after 1st June.
Regards,
Dom
For EU nationals even an L permit affords all the rights as a B permit to work, start a business, buy property etc. What's important is that it says EU/EG on it.
True after June 1st rules change again regarding quotas. Benefits of an L include not having to change ur Driving license yet, etc.
The authorities can issue u with an L for up to 2 yrs then replace with a B...until June 1st...so guess what? they will...!
It's a bit like the UK you couldn't apply for a permit there as an EU10 member even the day b4 June 1st 2004....
What the bilateral gives u is the right to stay for 5 yrs and after that have a C. Whats important therefore is that you preserve the data di entrada on the bottom right corner on all future permits. They made a mistake on mine once, had to get them to change it ...good job too as I moved cantons thru work and then they wouldnt have had the original records to prove i'd been round longer.
Hope this helps
I am an EU citizen and I have just been issued with another L permit, for the third time in a row...although it is an EU permit, I will have to stick with my L permit for another year, bringing it to grand total of 3 years.
I think that this is a bit outrageous, don't you?
I just read a statement on the Zurich Migrationsamt website about the June 1 abolishment of quota's for EU-17 nationals. To prevent an enormous work overload they will not deal with any application request for renewal of the permit before the expiry date of the permit. Looks like you'll be stuck with the L for another year....
all down to quotas ... ie Kanton Zurich is full of EU expats. Whats the tizzy, it all changes on 1st June anyway ?
why outrageous ... do you feel you are somehow more deserving ?
Apparently all of the origional 10 EU states citizens will be entitles to B permits as of June or July this year, according to our HR people
Actually it applies to the old EU-15 plus Cyprus and Malta and the EFTA members Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.
I can understand L permit for two years, but three years...have you heard of anyone out there who has had L permits for three years? I never have...it is certainly outrageous
but why the use of the word "outrageous" ... if the qouta is full the quota is full ... certainly I was lucky enough to get a 5 year B when I entered, arranged by my employer ... is that outrageous too ?
children starving in Darfur while the world ignores it ... now that is an outrage ....
