Another Mac problem...Kingston encrypted USB stick not recognized

I think this is another problem with my Mac...but not sure. I've accessed the data on the stick successfully my Mac over the past few months, now getting a message that says

You can’t open the application “DTVP_Launcher.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OSX.

It was originally used on my old PC without problem. Went back to my PC and it won't open there either. Have I just lost everything??

Thanks for any tips/advice you can offer!

Not a Mac problem, sounds like you need to format the usb stick for the mac to read it. That will wipe it, but if it's not working on your windows machine, it sounds like it's toast anyway.

I've had a lot of problems lately since -- after installing Yosemite, and now Kaspersky. Crap. I had my professional life on there!!

Are you trying to open an exe file on Mac?

That will definately not work. If you want to open Windows application on Mac then you need to use Wine bottler.

someone's not read the OP properly, this is not a WINE issue.

the USB stick is corrupted, most likely. And as it's encrypted, it will be exceeding hard to recover. From the description, I don't hold out hope.

USB sticks are not the place to have your one copy of everything....!

Yes sorry,

Missed the bit about going back on the PC and not working.

@nanners unfortunately your USB drive is corrupted as I had the same issue with a Sandisk drive. Used it on PC, then on Mac and then it wasnt getting read back on the PC.

Thanks everyone. I think it's a lost cause...

Maybe it's a sign that it's time to let go of my past career anyway

Have you tried recovering your data with a data recovery software?

I googled a few but was confused about them. Could you recommend one? That would also leave my files in original format? Thanks!

Im not sure if Im allowed to post external links but Recuva has been rated the best free recovery tool:

Portable version (No installation required):

the problem is you're trying to recover files on an encrypted medium. I don't hold out much hope.

the only product I can think of is Spinrite but I don't know if this will rescue a USB flash drive.

also the issue is that the drive is presenting *something* to the computer it's plugged into which suggests to me that the stick has somehow been reinitialised.

I don't try to be a doom-monger but I'm not so optimistic.

Well I had a Kingston SSD. The operating system was on it. Suddenly the other day when I started the PC ( Windows ) I got the message that the SSD is " locked " and that I must "unlock " it. Of course that was impossible to do ( and I tried alot )so I had to buy a new SSD-definitely NOT Kingston.
