Another (my first actually) red light fine, but....it was green, honest !
I had been sat stationary at the front of the queue for 20 seconds or so, saw the lights change and moved off, quite gently actually as I was already early for an appointment 500m away. Flash went off and I though WTF? So I circled back around to make a second attempt, just to check i hadn't read the lights wrong, in case the other lane lights were lighting ahead of mine etc. But all as expected, except this time no flash!
Definitely the light changed before I moved - I'm sure about that. What I am not so sure about is if it actually made it to green, or maybe just the amber lit up. Anyone know the rule with that? Do you have to wait for the green? In any event, as I said above, I was not in a hurry, so I believe I did not rush the amber anyway...
BTW....timing on the 250 fine states "Rot seit: 33.04 Sekunden". I wonder if I can find out the cycle time of the lights and prove that green was on already.....
hmm....it's not only 250 sfr...it's the principle....I'm sure I was ok....and I certainly was not in a hurry....grrrrr
Bit strange all round. A 250 CHF fine would be for up to 1 second over. 33 seconds would be much higher. I think it's worth challenging this one but remember they can charge you for checking the equipment if it turns out to be fault free.
You wait for the light to actually turn green, and enjoy the orchestral tootings from everyone behind you
I had a 250 franc fine for a miniscule fraction of a second, so now I don't move until the light is definitely green, but the sound effects from behind are rather like listening to Stockhausen
Some years ago I got a CHF250 ticket for a red light, except I didn't go through on red, I went through on green, but I had to wait on some jerk who was blocking the intersection.
Best things is to already move a bit in the red + amber phase to prevent the smart@sses behind you from honking, showing them that you are awake. You just must not cross the white line before the light turns green.
Call them asap! Sometimes there are mistakes and they can look at the picture to verify the accuracy of your claim. Sometimes if the case isn't clear they cancel your fine. But they can't do that if you call too late.
This is exactly what happened to us on Monday (including the part where we thought "WTF"). Is it possible that there is a programming error? Do people actually succeed if they challenge these?
just had friend phone in and challenge his ticket .. he was told by one of the staff that "we often have problems with this and it is always worth phoning us to check" .. confirmed later that they did not have to pay the fine! For 250 CHF, probably worth a punt!
I've been behind a car on Burkliplatz which just made it through the lights but got no further than 4 or 5 metres due to the queue of traffic in front and was kind of straddled (partly) over the pedestrian crossing.
I was behind the line at the traffic lights as normal and waited for green. As I ambled through (obviously I couldn't whizz through because the cars were backed up in front of me), the traffic light radar flashed.
This was in May and I still haven't heard anything or received anything in the post so I am guessing the proximity of the car in front triggered the radar.
I really wish they would install red-light cameras in Aargau... The number of cars that shoot through on red is appalling.
Even when my light was green, I have seen cars still go through the intersection.
I even had "Angry Old Man" behind me once, coming off the motorway to turn into Birmenstorf last year; he was angry that I didn't run the lights, despite the large quantity of photons clearly being emitted from the orange light, long before I was at the stop line. He continued to tailgate me all the way to Birmenstorf and appeared to be shouting obscenities at me from inside his car, which obviously I could not hear. What a tosser!
