We are about to buy an IKEA PAX waredorbe with a hgiht of 2.36 meters. But we worry about whether the ceiling heights in Switzerland are high enough. Has anyone had any trouble contructing a waredrobe given the ceiling heights? Thanks!
We bought Pax but the height just below the 2.36. The 2.36 will fit but I have a feeling you will have to assemble it upright as opposed to on the floor as recommended. Ceilings are the same as the UK news builds NOT Victorian (if that helps)
When assembling them on the floor you need a bit of extra room to tip them up. Assembling them upright is doable but you need two people for sure. But remember you need to be able to move them out again :-)
They will fit but installing was a pain. The other reply was correct, you have to assemble upright and they are heavy. It was "fun" for sure.

The thing is with IKEA is that they look great if installed or put together correctly without a scratch or damage to the item. But as soon as something goes wrong they the item just look wrong.
We still have a PAX flat pack waiting for us to get in the right mind set to put it up. We have been living out of boxes for a month. Waiting for a rainy day.....
well, you can always call in a professional that will save a bit of hassel. A friend of mine, (big blokes over 6" tall) Spent 3 days putting Ikea wardrobe together and at the end, they found there was a fault with the doors; hence it did not close properly. Ikea admitted there is a fault and get them to return the pack for another one.
So if you enjoy putting 3D puzzles together, great.. I know what I will choose.

umm.. you serious??? call Papa Goose! He will even pick stuff up at IKEA! so long as you give him a shopping list. So you don't even have to worry about finding a van to transport the stuff!
How high are your ceilings? As long as you have min 2.4 you should be ok, those kindly folks at Ikea even put that on their website. If not they have to be built upright, which is not a problem you just need 2 people

We don't know yet, but we assume we will have the standard height. So in your experience, if you have the standard height of 2.42, you can construct it flat and tip it up?

Regarding the 2.36's, I did get called to build these for a fella in Zurich as he and his mates had a problem building them... aye, 2.35m ceilings in a basement flat... I'm good but I ain't that good
The simple answer is a definite maybe and all dependant on actual ceiling height, and here they can be as 2.35 or lower and most modern builds tend to be around 2.4 as the walls are block not plasterboard, so I'd just measure it to be sure and forget assuming as that leads to the dark side. If you want 2.36 units and building flat isn't an option, building them upright really isn't a big deal.
The higher PAX wardrobe does not fit in our 70's build flat-roof-standard-around-here type house. Our celings are only 230 in the bedrooms (higher in the lounge).
If you get an old house then it will probably fit - or a super duper modern place also - but the 60's/70's style houses probably not. I personally wouldn't bother buying a wardrobe without somewhere to live as you have no idea if it'll fit at all, width, depth as well as height.
I live in an old building and the ceilings are only 220 high - luckily we thought to check this at the last minute before buying a wardrobe!
It was a real close call for me, but not TOO difficult.

We put the base together on the side, fit the "walls", then stood it upright to fit the "roof". It was a piece of cake from there on.
I would wait-we once nearly rented a really old, newly renovated flat we loved, all beams and funny shapes, but realised bending down and stooping a lot would put off some of our family from visiting...

I would def. wait! We have a relatively new apartment (it is about 5 years old) and our IKEA wardrobes are sitting in the cellar as they are too tall for the bedrooms, only miss by a centimetre or so - but a crucial few centimetres.

The thing is: There is no "normal" cealing height in CH. It all depends from ZIP code, age of the building, etc. etc...
I am currently living in an apartment with 240cm room height, and moving next week to an apartment with only 233cm room height. If you buy a PAX wardrobe from IKEA make sure that your ceiling is high enough. With the sliding doors you need minimum of 242cm and with hinged door minimum of 239 for installation. Although I have heard that someone assembled sliding door PAX into 240cm room, it would be really hard to do.
Safe choice would be PAX in the height of 201cm. With that you can also move and take it with you to the new apartment without a fear that it doesn't fit.
