I moved to Lucernen from Scotland a couple of months ago after 17 years there, because I was offered a job I couldn't refuse. My partner is still in Scotland trying to sell our house, learining German and looking for a job, so I am a wee bit lonely.
It would be great to meet some Enghish speking people so that I don't forget my English. Anybody interested?
Hi bookwifey, welcome to Switzerland and to the English Forum!
I know there are a few members in and around Luzern area but as the weather is pretty nice and as Easter week tends to be a holiday for kids (and some employers), perhaps they are out and you'll hear from them soon.
Keep an eye on the Events section of the forum, I believe there tends to be things going on in that area from time to time.
The one thing that comes directly to mind is the Penny Farthing which is actually in Kriens (and not far from Luzern), sometimes there are events there including a Sunday brunch buffet that sounds fantastic.
If you want to get out and meet people in English, you could try the local expat haunts, Pickwicks by the riverside (especialy on a sunny day) and Legends on Lowenstrasse. If you're a sports fan, they show the usual expat stuff, cricket, football and rugby, just show up when your team is on to be sure.
My name is Tanya. I moved to Lucerne due to my husband's work a month ago. It would be nice to get in touch with English-speaking people (or Russian). I can't do any active events (like mounting hiking or diving) as I am nearly 7 month pregnant, but who is up to quiet walks, or coffee breaks, well, just to meet up and have a nice talk, I would be really happy to do it.
As well, would be really nice to meet up future mums to be or mums It looks like Lucerne is a baby factory when you walk along the lake and see so many prams.
So I guess the option of motorbike riding is out then lol.
There is a small but certainly present expat community in LU. Most of them meet in a tiny pub near the river, which probably is also out given your current condition.
There is a Facebook group called "Luzern and Central Switzerland Expats" which has a load of members who meet up on a fairly regular basis.
I know Mr Pickwick, my husband's favourite place to eat out (coz of british food, cider and walkers crisps etc), but people just go there to eat and watch football really..
and I tried that facebook group, wrote to some girls, but NO_ONE replied.
