Anyone else affected by threatened strike action at GVA on Thursday?

I'm travelling from GVA to LCY on the evening of the 29th, so the strike is likely to affect me. Have just received the standard 'prepare for your flight' email from Swiss as if nothing is happening.

I’m actually on the morning BA flight to City.

The strike has been announce from 12 noon on Thursday so my flight should go.

If you are worried and a little flexible I would call them now and ask if you can be rerouted, perhaps on the BA flight or connecting flights via Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich departing before 12 Noon.

Perhaps wait until Tuesday morning to see if there is any news but don’t leave it to the last moment.

I’m coming back Friday but via Zurich and the train.

In the same boat, same journey, same date. Called LX and rebooked for different date.

Good luck and safe travels.

Just rang them and they said that any rebooking would be at my expense. In other words, I have to buy a new single flight which would cost more than my original return given the late date.

If they cancel the flight they must give you a rerouting or a rebooking or a full refund. But until they do ...

If they are confident the flight will operate they won’t cancel and will expect uou to turn up for it. Plan to be there early.

If they do cancel try and be prepared to tell them what you want to do, change the day, go via Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich?

Does anyone know how long this strike is expected to go on? Just Thursday afternoon? Or indefinitely?

Local papers say there'll be a meeting by admin and staff at the airport Thursday morning, if an agreement isn't found the strike starts immediately and indefinitely.

Just in time for the school holiday rush; Geneva City breaks up on Wednesday, the cantonal schools on Friday.

The meeting’s happening now, at the moment it looks likely that the strike will go ahead, but starting Friday morning (6-10 am) rather than immediately after the meeting as originally planned.

Flew out this morning as planned, no issues

I guess airlines are finding out now if they can operate or not.

Which staff are striking? Security? Baggage? Check-in? Etc

Staff that work for the airport. Not check-in or baggage. Security and safety including firefighters yes, and that could close the airport if replacements can’t be found.

I expect airlines that overnight their aircraft will be the first to blink. The won’t want their aircraft stuck on the ground.

If it’s firefighters, they are screwed. You can’t get anyone else to do the job, not even regular firefighters.

The runway has been closed between 06h00 and 10h00. See GVA.ch. Expect chaos.

GVA.ch is down

The strike will continue until towmorrow night.

The airport is closed…

…anyway, there are airplanes departing and arriving from GVA. Some long haul flights (NYC, Doha) are still arriving. So, there’s a lack of information for passengers.

Their app is now showing flights arriving and leaving.

Lots of flights cancelled and delayed. App is GVApp on Apple Store.

Does anybody know if this is this carrying on Monday 3 July ?

Supposed to end Saturday.

According to App only passengers allowed in Terminal, nobody else.
