I have a Visa for Vietnam currently in Switzerland, have accomodation in Ho Chi Minh :P If you pay the flight, I would be happy to get your cat (and visit my grandparents) Tickets are 580 euro 10-18 December.
I just realized that the Vietnamese customs would be probably harsch(er) on me. As a Vietnamese girl with a Dutch passport, traveling to Vietnam for 5 days and returning to Zürich airport it sure is conspicious. Even though, I would love to go to Vietnam and take the cat with me to Switzerland.
Anyway, the Vietnamese customs are already quiet known for their grumpiness :P
OP, have you actually checked with the Swiss Veterinary Office that someone else can bring your cat in for you? Yes, professional animal movers can do so, but I’m not sure a private individual can do so. Use this form to check.
Might be worth talking to this young lady who runs a concierge service. I haven't had her do anything pet related for me, but some other stuff.. Great service.
According to her website / Facebook page she's moved pets all around the world for people. So would likely know the ins and outs and possibilities.
Thanks Medea Fleecestealer, BLV admin has all my documents and the last step of applying for a permit required sending them the flight number- I thought they meant the cat's flight details and that's when they told me that if the cat travels alone I didn't need a permit, I was told the Vietnamese Vet would have arranged everything... except he didn't. That's why I posted my message. I have already posted several messages on Facebook asking the expat community in Saigon to share my post. There might be a guy traveling to Paris next week, a friend of my brother but I have had no response from him in the last few days.
@John_H: thank you v much for the contact, I'll call her tomorrow morning.
I honestly didn't think that offering money for whoever was traveling from Saigon (HCMC) to Zurich with my cat could seem dodgy (but i understand now!) so instead I can offer free French lessons, private yoga lessons (I trained with one of the world's best yoga teacher), drawing introduction and graphic design lessons for 3 to 6 months in Zug
Why didn’t you bring your cat with you when you first moved here? And did you make it clear to the Vietnamese vet that the cat wasn’t going to be travelling with you, but unaccompanied? Does the vet have the proper paperwork ready? Because if not, then anyone trying to take the cat out of the country will probably waste their time.
Like Medea says. What if someone travels all that way, and there are problems? They may face big problems, all the cat's papers and ownership are in your name etc. I wouldn't do that to someone or the cat.
Why don't you just tell your boss you need a week off, and go and get him yourself? If your job is more important than the cat. Perhaps you should try and find a home for him in Vietnam. Poor wee thing.
You spoilsports! I was about to get a free trip to Saigon, would have turned up to the vets only to be told "Sorry, the paperwork isn't in order" before hitting the bars.
Did you know the Vietnamese for beer is bia? I'm fluent.
Sorry, maybe I'm missing something. Adrian's been on EF since dinosaurs roamed the earth, is well known personally to many (look at me, being grown up and leaving my innuendo by the door), has almost 25'000 thanks and is generally regarded as a pretty friendly guy. He's offered to fly out to Vietnam to pick up your moggie and get you out of a bind for the price of a round-trip ticket, which is roughly what you were offering in reward money. He's been to Vietnam before and knows the ropes. I'd be all over that offer like spray tan on a President Elect.
I'm not sure you're going to find a better offer than that. Are you more inclined to trust some random stranger who happens to be flying from Vietnam to Switzerland in the next ten days?
I'm not sure that you can trust LIB not to sell the kitty to KFC.
