Swiss didn't get hacked and I want to enter passport data. It's a risk I'm willing to take.
I've just checked my Miles and More profile and that doesn't have a facility to store your APIS info either. I'm inclined to think that it is a data protection/identity theft measure, and I also believe that an airline such as Swiss, has a higher than average percentage of business travellers, many of whom hold multiple passports.
The lack of storing API data really annoys me too...

Thanks for reminding me to insert mine
Edit : nvm... I've read again you rant and must say, it can't be done
When the news broke, it really got my shackles up. BA have a system where you can collectively collect the air miles of an entire family/household. I remember looking into this when it was first introduced and my OH totally rejected the idea, not just for us, but for anyone. Simple reason is one lump of information would carry everything a hacker would need to steal the identity of everyone in your family. Just think about it...
All your family names
Dates of birth
Passport details
Home address
Mileage accounts that retain details of all your family members' flights, regular holiday destinations, etc...
Possibly details of family pets if you've ever flown with them. (For 20yrs, my banking pin numbers were the dangerous dogs act registration number tattoed on the inside of my dog's rear leg )
All a hacker would need would be photos (facebook) and signature, to have every possible detail of your ID, or at least, enough info to gather the rest from other sources. The thought of that database being hacked...which I did think when the news first broke...fills me with dread. Plus, amongst that amount of data, there's a fair chance that many people will have used such info for their pin numbers and passwords.
On Swiss, I can store my OH's mileage account details and have him as a named traveller, but that's all, and it's as much as I'd be prepared to give for the sake of 'convenience'.
This may all sound alarmist, but my first thought this morning was to delete my BA account details.
