Apple battles Swiss Fruit Union over Apple logo

Yes, that Apple that sells quirky mouses with only 1 button, is battling the Swiss Fruit Union over the use of their logo, the red one. This is scummy behavior from Apple because fruit growers sell actual apples, while Apple sells phones and tablets.

Some corporations are quite .. crazy.

Now, on the Swiss Fruit Union, their current logo is only 12 years old. They adapted it in 2011 at their 100 year anniversary. Prior to that, they had a different (apple-like) logo with the Swiss cross one the left side. So, hard to argue that their current logo is older than Apple's

I’d say prior usage trumps any Apple claims. And to try and copyright/trademark something as generic as an apple especially when it’s something that won’t even be competing in their markets …

Well, Apple did have to shell out north of 100 million to the Beatles for infringing their trademark...

All Apple mouses (mice) have two buttons. At least for the last 30 years or so*.

Trademark law is designed to keep trademark lawyers rich. This will be settled amicably because the lawyers get even more if it doesn’t go to court.

*Apple’s original concept was with their users being used to using keyboard shortcuts as much as the mouse. To do a “right click” the user only needs to hold down the command key while left clicking. That was then.

The old logo looked like a tomato. It just looks like they made a little update.

I found the old logo on some PDF from 2002
