Appliance repairs

Hi all,

Does anyone have recommendations for companies that do competent appliance repairs in the Zurich area? Some movers damaged my fridge, and I need a quote for the repair in order to claim it on insurance.

Yes, in hindsight moving a fridge was a fairly stupid thing to do

Thanks in advance.

Did you buy it here or was it shipped over? Obviously if you bought it here then you could contact the seller. If it was shipped over, perhaps the manufacturers have an official contact here?

Which model of fridge is it? I have found in the past with a few of my broken appliances (for example my dryer), the cost of repair sometimes is almost the same as buying a new appliance from Conforama.

Would your insurance replace new for old?

It's a Fisher and Paykel... looks like they dropped it, and it is dinged all over the side. If it wasn't insured, I wouldn't bother with this, but have to go through the process of getting a quote in order to claim it. I think if the cost of the repair exceeds the declared value, and they accept the claim, they just give me that.

I found this mob who are the dealer for Switzerland: www.merial.ch . I'll contact them, but would also be happy to hear any recommendations for other repairers in the Zurich area if anyone has them.

Does anybody know where I could get a quote to repair a microwave? Again - similar to the OP - the removal company damaged mine in the move from the UK and they want me to provide a "repair quote".

I have tried explaining that for a microwave which costs around £100 to replace (and for which I will claim around £70 as the fair cost accounting for wear and tear) that a repair in Switzerland is likely to vastly exceed this amount - but they need a quote.

Does anyone know of anywhere that will give me a quote for repairs without charging me first? Also, preferably without me having to lug the bloody thing down the shop first.

As the quote is purely administrative, why dont you email the manufacturer and ask them to advise how much it would cost to return it to them for repairs.

Places like Migros and Fust are charging around Fr 70 to give you a quote for a repair. This is returned when you get it repaired with them, but if the insurance refuse the repair then you are left with the cost! It's a no win situation, maybe cheaper to buy a second hand one.
