This Siemens washer (9kg) is overkill for the OP but if someone else is looking, Conforama has it on special at CHF 200.- less than the best Toppreise price. Delivery is CHF 80.- (not installation).
It is also A+++, 1600 rpm and i-dos (automatic liquid detergent dosing) etc.
A quick question about Bosch and Siemens. It seems that the washing machines are the same for both brands. Is there a reason to buy from one brand over the other? Does one have better customer support or service availability?
During our refurb planning we opted for Siemens stuff in the kitchen and Samsung washer and dryer.
However, after visiting the Miele showroom and being so impressed with their products and the way that the showroom looked after us, I changed to Miele for everything and couldn't be happier. It's totally top stuff.
When we first got the keys to our place, there was indeed a 30 year old miele washer in the basement that was going strong. Although it looked a bit dated, it worked fine and that was another sign that this is a very well made brand.
After living with all of it for six months, I found myself in Zug with some time on my hands and visited the V Zug showroom. I have to say, it all seemed a step below the Miele.
What I especially like about the Miele is how simple it is to use. Ok you pay for it and you don't tend to get discounts compared to the other brands... but if I had to do another refurb, I'd go for Miele again in a heartbeat if I could budget it.
Just swithched from top end Miele washing machine and dryer, which were giving me endless problems, to top end Siemens.
After 2 weeks, very happy with the Siemens washing machine. All my clothes come out clean after only about 1 hour. With Miele most programs take 2 hours and sometimes are not clean. For the wife this is the best part. No more waiting around for ages for the machine.
As for the dryer, well, it works well, but the Miele automatic plus programmes means that you can put everything in together. The siemens expects you to sort the washing between cottons, synthetics, etc. Which is a completely different sorting from the washer where you sort out coloureds and whites.
So the perfect combo would have been the Siemens washer and the Miele Dryer!
In U.K. Which? magazine reports, both Bosch and Siemens get similar scores for reliability etc.
Bosch, Siemens and even Gaggenau do use a lot of the same parts internally.
Bosch and Siemens come off the same lines. The differences are largely cosmetic and a difference user-interface.
Although Gaggenau do use many of the same internally parts, they are constructed of much better, stronger materials (steel or aluminium instead of plastic, for example).
You'll pay a bit more for Siemens over Bosch as they are seen as a more premium brand.
Get the one you like the look of and with a nice UI.
I really like Bosch and Siemens products as the spare parts are really easy to get hold off, aren't expensive from many different sellers and it's easy to find out what parts you need.
Miele takes longer, they say because of energy efficiency. But I don't have the numbers to compare to the Siemens. The Siemens does have options to increase or decrease efficiency (by making the machine slower/faster) at a push of a button, but the Miele does not let you do that.
That's good to know about the Siemens. We'll be looking at new ones soon as our current ones are a mixture of Electrolux and V-Zug bits inside to keep them going.
I had the same issue and i have mix feelings. 2 years ago i renovated kitchen and everything Miele.
Now i have upgraded the Flat (new one) and everything Miele except dishwasher.
For me and this is personal the washing machine, oven and exhaust is worthy to be Miele.
Washing machine with own brand detergents is very efficient to make white really white. Another thing Miele says 8 kgs it is really 8 kgs. You can also check for yourself. A Siemens washing machine is around 60 kgs and Miele 90 kgs.
This is great for silence. Now is this worthy double price? Is a personal taste but no vibrations and white whiter for me yes.
Oven with self cleaning and cool front. This was the best investment. The oven is always cool what is amazing specially with kids.
The mix feeling comes with dishwasher. This new flat has has a Whirlpool one. Ok is much more noisy specially if you have your meals in Kitchen but it dries much better than Miele.
However i decided for mid series from miele (series 4) and not series 6.
In Resume, oven and washing machine and exhaust 5 stars. They have now 3 years.
Dishwasher i would try the 6 series but is quite expensive.
The mentality, for me, to buy Miele is designed in Germany and built in Europe. Some appliances are built in Czech Republic. Unfortunately or it was a misluck the dishwasher was built there and is no way comparable to Whirlpool.
But bear in mind you are paying for a design brand and with higher wages
We’ve just bought somewhere and the original V-Zug appliances are all going strong after 15yrs. However at some point they are going to give up the ghost so we priced up alternatives.
What shocked us was that despite the price premium VZug only give a 2 yr guarantee - whereas IKEA which I think is all Electrolux is 5 yrs as standard. What do Miele offer?
Although we had something break in a fridge a couple of months after two years and although they charges for labour, they gave us the part for nothing.
Don't buy that cheap marketing bullshit. A top-of-the range dutch oven from le creuset or staub will set you back ~CHF150 and will do a much, much better job with steam for your oven spring and bread crust.
Actually was looking for differences between Electrolux and Sibir because our old fridge is now replaced by Sibir and was just wondering if it is any better.
Having read the thread in the meantime I would like to say:
There is definitely difference between different brands. I am so unhappy with all Electrolux machines. For example at our old place Schulthess was so better at cleaning. Even for cleaning wipes they would all come out without a spot. I clean them on same program and they are pretty dirty with Electrolux. My sister's Miele is also doing a satisfactory job.
My personal opinion is that the brand may be less important for stove as it is doing a pretty standard job. Yes, oven may have some influence but unless you are really particular about your backing that should not be a problem. But for washing and tumble dryers there are huge differences between devices.
My parents had a Miele washing machine that lasted 20+ years, until it broke in 2006. They then replaced it with a Siemens, thinking it would be almost the same thing.
The Siemens machine broke after 2.5 years, and the customer service that showed up said "bad luck, can't fix. You need to buy a new one". My dad being old-school but not handy at all, got his hands on a contact to a russian electric engineer who had a look at it and fixed it without any original parts within 20 minutes. The machine ran fine for many more years (my parents then moved and left the machine in the old apartment....).
I've got a friend who works as a repair specialist at a large chain for domestic appliances in CH (you can probably guess which one...) and when buying all the appliances for our newly-built house, I asked him for advice as I honestly can't see the difference between a washing machine of 700 vs 4000. His sole response was: "anything that has to do with water, there is only one - Miele". All the other appliances, not much of a difference.
In the end we bought everything from Miele due to a deal with a supplier, and have been extremely happy. There simply isn't anything else I'd like to install.
