Applying to b permit in Switzerland after wedding abroad

I know there is a lot of threads regarding this issue, but it just seems I can not find an answer even though I read them.

My fiance is Swiss national and I am non EU but have a passport that I don't need visa to enter Switzerland up to 90 days.

So, we are planing to get married in my country, and after that I know I can apply for permit in embassy, but what i do not know is can I go to Switzerland as a tourist since I do not need a visa to enter and to apply for permit there in Switzerland directly and where it would be, gemeinde or?

Is it possible and if it is please give me the info who should we call in Switzerland to ask about detailed procedure since here in embassy do not know much.

Thank you

don't want to say exactly what you can do, but my husband is EU (i'm not) we got married in ny, i came here on a tourist visa and applied for my permit here in Lausanne. it was quite easy and i had my permit within a month.

i don't want to say it's always this simple, but i would imagine the same could apply.

congrats!

Amaraya thank you very much.

Could you tell me where did you apply for permit at which institution? And what did you need of documents?

Thanks again

it will be different for each canton, but they will have the info at the consulate i'm sure. as for paper work, bring everything, birth cert, marriage license, passport with stamp of entry, easier if you call first and ask for info.

and have your spouse go with you, esp if you don't speak the local language, some workers speak eng but not always so quick to use it and not always so easy to explain things.

good luck!

You know, this is about the time your spouse is supposed to get off his backside and get involved (and yes, that means more than randomly checking the internets). Being Swiss and all I suppose language shouldn't be a problem. Maybe laziness?

Well, on this forum i see so many good people that want to help and that ask for help either, but somehow every time I ask for help I get some negative notes.

Shorrick, you could have answered to my question and help me instead of making some assumptions. As far as I could see you are very well informed on this subject. Or you are lazy too

And for those who have information and want to share it I also wonder since we first need to validate are marriage certificate should we apply for validation altogether when applying for permit, or we should apply for it separately and if so where to go.

Thanks

In the meantime my fiance called civil stadt amt and he was told that we can not apply for permit directly in Switzerland, but we have to go over embassy in my country. And the reason is not me but him, because he need to notify embassy about that he got married???

This is really confusing since there is a lot of examples here on forum of people who did that directly in Switzerland. I do not know what to think now.

I'm not quite sure what your case is, but in my case (a U.S. national married to a Swiss national), I had to get my visa at my home embassy, though was able to do it through the mail.

The Swiss Embassy website says

"As a general rule, the applicant must appear in person to submit a visa request. Please consult the information below to find out which visa desk is responsible for your place of residence and whether you may apply by mail.

"All persons, including American citizens who intend to stay in Switzerland for more than three consecutive months, will need authorization from the cantonal authorities and a visa from the responsible Swiss visa desk. The same rule applies for all persons who intend to engage in gainful activity in Switzerland. Special regulations apply for the citizens of EU/EFTA member countries."

I'm not sure if this applies to you, but it seemed to apply to me. (Here's my post. ) It might be advisable to email the Swiss Embassy or Consulate General covering your country. When I went through the process, I got all different answers from all over the place, regarding how it proceeds with applying for a visa/Aufhaltsbewillingung. For me, my husband was in contact with the Ausländeramt was able to get much better information about our application.

One more link that you might find useful is the English information sheet on applying for a Swiss spousal visa.pdf) .

I am new here as well 6 months, my husband and >I are both from the USA. We married in June in Florida, and moved here right after due to his job transfer. To answer as best I can, I came here with just my 90 day touring allowance, but went to the germinda in our canton right away and had all the documents they required from when we called ahead. I applied the first week of arrival. I have been here over my 90 days, but when I went home for the holidays, there was not an issue as the swiss border control ran my passport and saw that I was in the system as I am still waiting for my B permit to arrive. I guess as long as you have applied, you should be fine... hope this helped.

Thank you guys a lot.

As far I can see some of you applied in Swiss embassy abroad for visa permit, but some directly in Switzerland.

But as I wrote earlier this confuses me since they told us in civil standsamt that I can only apply in embassy in my home country. How can this be true. Can this be different from canton to canton maybe? (canton Bern)

Also what is strange is that I have been told here in embassy that after I apply for family reunion I can not go to Switzerland even as I tourist (I do not need visa to enter Switzerland) because I am then i a "system" so she had to warn me about that.

Does anyone heard of it before?

more often than not, visa application is just a case-based thing, or even clerk-mood-based. just do what they tell you to do.

also, although you cannot go to Switzerland as a tourist, but you are still allowed to go to Switzerland, aren't you? Why do you insist on going to Switzerland 'as a tourist', especially you are indeed not?

I agree on this

Maybe we did not understand each other. I do not insist on going as a tourist. But process itself takes up to three weeks after I apply in Embassy for Family reunion, so I thought to go in Switzerland in the meantime until I get papers, but it seems it is forbidden. So I must wait in my country for that period of time.

Sorry that I got you wrong, but I would imagine your vias would be issued in your local swiss embassy, where you should fetch it. So even if you can come to CH during this period, do you plan to fly back and forth?

3 weeks is not that long, or just ask your sweetie to stay in your country a little longer...

Ooooops I meant three months not weeks. I really would not mention it if it was about only three weeks for sure
