Does anyone know of a decent artist supply store in Zurich or elsewhere in Switzerland ? I'm looking for the professional grade stuff, not the student art supplies you find in Migros and hobby stores. I'm especially pining away for good watercolour paper. I've tried searching on-line, but my German is so limited that I'm not having any success.
There is a shop in the Kanzleistrasse in Zürich where you will probably find what you're looking for: www.kunstmalerbedarf.ch - I'm sure there's someone who speaks English there. Good hunting!
Thank you all, looks like I'm going shopping ! I'm a recent ex-pat and it's amazing how being able to just find the basic things you need makes such a big difference in feeling more at home. Hmm, its a bit humbling ...
there is a art supply shop in schmiede weidikon, just behind the foreign police office, i forgot the name of the street...but it seems cheap..
there is a shop by central, by the lake, just opposite the lake in fact, if you walk from the tram station central towards the old city along the lake you cant miss it! the art supply is upstairs
also in Jelmoli there are sketch books and all sorts of things in their stationary department
I'm not sure if it is common among artists to paint on canvas over solid wood boards. (If a wooden frame with stretched canvas around it is good enough, for example the Zurich shop of Lachenmeierfarben.ch sells these on demand with the dimensions you specify).
I found a good artist supply shop in Glad Centre .... they keep every item your heart desires, at quite good decent prices. I use only Windsor & Newton paint, and their prices were a lot cheaper than I was used to paying in South Africa (considering the exchange rate) - and the selection far greater. They got wooden stretcher frames, and also the canvas over card in different sizes........ and much much more......
Sorry, dont know the name - but it`s there, on one of the floors!
There's an artists' supply store right down the end of Seefeldstrasse, just before you get to Tiefenbrunnen, on the right hand side if you're heading out of town.
I've never been in, of course. I shall leave that kind of thing to the Bohemian types...
