Anyone seen this actually in action?
I drove across it on the A1 near the intersection with the motorway that links Solothurn.
People not respecting the speed limit on cars with soft suspension had some minor issues while going up and down the bridge haha I don’t remember when I read that the bridge got an upgrade to give the access ramps a more gentle slope.
But, still in use? Last year there was significant roadwork also on the A1 near Oftringen (AG) and the bridge thingy was not there. Usual reduction of lane width, move some barriers, temp orange markings and that’s it.
No I haven’t but I think it’s great. Specially for the safety of the workers. I bet they are much more relaxed while doing their jobs (wonder how many had too high blood-pressure before).
They have this and yet on some roads, they have cones out on there for years reducing traffic from 2 lanes to 1 and often with no work taking place whatsoever most of the time.
I read that none of the road surface laying vehicles which need to be under the bridge were all too tall for it due to an oversight in the bridge design.
They all had to be modified at great expense.
There’s only one bridge so far and it’s still being tested.
It seems to me that the entire approach targets relatively light work that’s quickly done, like replacing the top layer of the asphalt.
Wasn’t there a similar structure of some sort a few years back in the A1 between Geneva and Lausanne? I think around the Rolle exit? I remember there was a “bridge”, don’t know if it was this one specifically.
Seems like a good idea in principle, but roadworks will always be a pain in the ass. When they are for long periods they don’t work round the clock but the restrictions remain the whole time which is super annoying.
I recall that the issue was with the on and off ramp whereby the angle was too sharp and had to be softened.
