Auf Widersehen, pet

Poor Germany cant get a break.
After flushing the car industry down the U-bend, Tyssen-Krupp has announced plant closured and up to 11 thousand to be laid off.
In the seventies and eighties it was workers from Britain coming to Germany looking for for work, now it may be the other way round.
Looks like I picked the wrong time to be in Germany coming up to my sell by date in another three years and four months.

Well, this is what the de-growth, de-industrialization movement want.

Yeah! But Bosch, Siemens, Schöffel etc, etc. All going, going, gone.
And that wanker Harbeck is talking about debt financed assistance to industry in the billions.

Unsurprisingly, everything that depends on automotive is having very difficult times. Steel is particularly bad, and frankly always has been a shitty, low-margin at best, overleveraged industry that for some reason politicians never wanted to let die.

In my view, (part of) the answer is cutting excessive regulations in both Berlin and Brussels, cut government spending for renewables and roll back some climate targets that are nonsensically out of sync with EU targets and/or clearly do no good for the global climate yet damage German industry. Probably some generous welfare programs and comfy union tariffs will also have to be touched. There also might be need for an investment strategy that requires some debt-financing.

But the main problem is that Germany’s “export” business model has been built on relentless globalization and these times are over.

PS: Don’t we already have one or two “Germany sucks” threads where this could belong? Especially given the silly title.

Awww! Come on. It took me ages to come up with the title.

click-bait, Kumpel.

I’ve ignored him/her and no longer read their posts.

I was wondering which one of these fine thespians has died?

I am insulted that even after all this time you don’t know that I am a big hairy guy.

But Pat “Bomber” Roach has been dead for 20 years.
