Extra: I was sponsored by a Swiss. Can he apply for the schengen visa on my behalf and just go and collect the second visa once it's authorized?
So my student visa D just got authorized however there's a little concern. I told the immigration on my application that I needed to be in Switzerland 2 months(July) prior to the start of my course in order to undertake mandatory training. The training is part of the course and it's even included on the admission letter. I was surprised that the authorization letter states that my visa's validity starts on September(Main course start date). The training is crucial and I don't think the school will allow me to begin the course without having completed the training. I have two options 1)To call the immigration office and ask them whether they can change the date( I have yet to pick the visa. I just got the authorization today) option 2) Apply for a short term schengen visa D or ask them if they can authorize it directly from Switzerland so that I can enter Switzerland with a short term visa in order to do the training then get my permit once my main visa D becomes valid in September. What are your thoughts on this situation? I am kinda happy and worried at the same time.
I’d contact the immigration office asap and see if they can change it. If that info was included in the application then it’s a mistake on their part and they should change it.
I'd definitely contact the immigration office and explain the situation. It might be helpful to obtain an official letter (with proper letterhead and contact person) from your school confirming that your training begins in July and that it is a mandatory part of your educational program.
(On more than one occasion I have had people in the immigration office make an incorrect decision regarding my permit because they didn't correctly assess my situation, they are definitely not immune from making errors or jumping to the wrong conclusion without completely reading someone's application.)
