every day when I go to work I pass the Google office in Binz. I wonder where Google employees buy Google products as they are not available in media markt, interdiscount etc. I go to store.google.com and look at the products I can buy, virtually nothing.
I can go to Germany or the UK and buy the Made by Google products but not in Switzerland. I also can't go and buy Amazon Fire tv/box, Amazon Echo or Roku.
I am sure there a number of people who work for Google who are on this forum. Maybe some one can explain why it is not possible to go and buy Google products in the swiss market.
By the way great set of products announced today. I am looking forward to using them.
Last time I checked it was by far and large an ad company, hardware revenues are a rather minor profit source. They don't really need your money in same way like Apple or Samsung do - *you* are their product.
What about Google WiFi, Google Home, Pixel C and will the Pixel 2, Google Home Max, Pixel Buds, Google Clips. i wonder if any of these will be available here. The excellent Chromecast devices are widely available but after that it seems it is just online or Digitec which seems really weird considering the large Google presence.
I suspect the reason things like Google Home and Alexa etc are not yet released in Switzerland is because it's such a small market that they probably don't see it as worth putting the effort in to localize them.
I am very tempted by the Google Home Mini though, to see how it stacks up against Alexa.
Sometimes the products appear on the Swiss store a few months later. That was the case for the nexus 5 and the nexus 5x. For both of them was November.
I think the big negative of the Mini compared with the Echo is it doesn't have an Aux-out audio socket so you can't connect it to speakers without bluetooth such as sonos systems.
