I got married in Switzerland about a month ago to a Swiss. I am non EU (American). We got married and filed all my paperwork right away for the B Permit. I was offered a job at a language school teaching English. I just received my employment contract in the mail. The school needs a copy of my work permit. Is this the same as my B permit? I thought the B permit was a residence permit, but I am able to work with it?? If so, how do I speed up this process so I can begin working??? Do I need to call the canton or immigration office? Have the school call? I heard the process to get the B permit can take a while and I need to begin working right away. I had a training day for the school yesterday and I need to be able to be paid for this as well. Does anyone have any information on this matter? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It is a long time ago since I dealt with this issue, so my information could well be out of date and I would strongly recommend that you or your partner contact the community office to ensure that you receive the correct permit .
The last I know is that the standard B permit issued to a non-EU person married to a Swiss is not a work permit , but a residence permit only. You are entitled to work by virtue of your marriage to a Swiss, but your future employer must still make the application for a work permit. In doing so, the employer needs to include a copy of your wedding cert. with the application to show that you are not subject to the usual labor market rules and you will receive the permit in due course.
