B Permit processing times (after biometric scan)

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to know how it long it took everyone to get the actual non-EU B permit in the mail after the biometric scan procedure was completed in Zurich? Just trying to get an idea of how long it takes....since this holding me up from taking care a lot of other business.

Thanks

I think I got my first one about two weeks after the biometric scan?

3.5 weeks and waiting for me. It could be do to that fact that Geneva canton was the actual canton that approved my permit but i registered in Zurich for the permit.

Anyone else? What was your delay? Or does anyone know the average delay? i'm on 4 weeks this week.

It was a couple of weeks

How long ago was that? and are you a non-eu? Thanks.

What are you waiting to do? We had our passports and the piece of A5 paper that is your verification of residency (it comes in the little clear plastic folder) and that was enough for us to do everything - banking, renting, etc.

I think ours took about 2-3 weeks to arrive.

We're non EU.

Yeah they actually gave me the same piece of paper in the clear plastic thing. Its like a temporary permit until the official one arrives. I wasn't even able to open a post finance account with this paper. They said they can not do it and they need the official permit. I'm curious, which bank accepted your paper to open a bank account?

PostFinance :-) I think realistically your best bet is to go back and try a different employee, or a different branch. We were lucky because we had a relocation agent who came with us, but all they wanted was that piece of paper, our passports, and my husband's proof of employment (which in this case was his formal offer).

We opened ours at Post Wollishofen.

Well great news, i was able to go back to PostFinance and open an account using my temporary paper. I guess it all depends who you get to help you....either they aren't aware that they can open you an account or they just don't feel like spending the time to do it for you.

I also opened at Post Finance with temporary paper and after one week i received letter that they have blocked my a/c and asked to send proof of domicile. I again send them copy of temporary paper and they unblocked it

Reviving this thread to see if there is anyone who can give me some more recent info. My biometric appointment at the Zurich Migration office is Monday Aug 17, and I already have a job offer from a company in Zurich. Luckily the company is understanding about not knowing when I can start, but I'd like to get a vague idea of when I might be able to work legally. (Early/mid/late sept, or oct???)

Anyone do this more recently than 2013, preferably in 2015?

We are Non EU but received our B permits exactly after a week after our biometric scan. but that was 5 years ago.

in any case, the call center of the immigration office is very helpful. they can tell you where your application is and how long it takes to get the permit in hand. however i would say to call them only after 2 weeks after the biometric scan if you dont get the permits in this 2 weeks.

For non EU biometric scan is a last step to issue ID. Before that you already have residence/work authorization, visa, registration at kreisburo etc. I started working as soon as I arrived in Switzerland and registered at kreisburo. Biometric scan was 1-2 week after arrival and ID came 2 weeks after the scan.

exactly the same for me last month

Ok seems like I may have misunderstood things so if you don't mind I'll outline my situation a bit more to see where I misunderstood, as I never got the impression from anyone that I can work already.

I am American, husband is Swiss, I arrived Monday as a tourist, registered at the Einwohneramt on Wednesday and made my appointment through them for the biometric appointment at the Migrationsamt.

Are you saying that I could already legally start working now?

Honestly this whole process has gone more smoothly that I expected already (since I foolishly didn't get the entrance visa required for Americans, but they have generously overlooked that) and it will blow my mind if I could have already started working. haha

I think seeing how the US govt treated my husband has jaded me when it comes to immigration things. I really expected the worst.

They overlooked it as in they didnt look at your passport or you told them you did not have a D-visa and they actively said it was not necessary? I dont remember the einwohlekontrolle looking at my visa, but the migrationsamt on Wednesday definitely did and scanned everything (including the stamp to enter Schengen through Iceland) into the system. I hope you aren't going to hit a roadblock there, although I am very jealous the BS I went through last month if I didn't have to!

I am in a similar situation. I am an American and my husband is Swiss. The day after completing my Biometric, I received a letter in the mail requesting a copy of our lease, a translated background check (from the FBI), a copy of work or banking info, and asking if we'd been married before.

Having spoke with the migration office numerous times, I think I have figured out that I cannot work yet, until I receive my B permit. I have to wait a few weeks for my background check to return (up to 14 I'm told). Since that may be longer than the 90 days I am allowed to stay, I was told as long as I have a pending application with immigration I can legally stay in Switzerland. I would check with Immigration to see if they need anything else from you. When I had the scan they said I would get the permit in 10 days, but the next day I got a letter stating otherwise. Just call, and if they're not sure, call again. I've spoken with a number of people there, some are much more helpful and knowledgeable.

Let me know if you need info about the background check - that was a process too.

Hi somuchtravel, any update on your permit?

I got a similar letter just before my biometric appointment, and at the appointment the lady told us we should write a letter explaining why we can't provide the documents they asked for within the time frame they asked for, and that we can submit them later, and she said that it was likely they will issue the b permit anyway. She had a very nonchalant "you have nothing to worry about" attitude that I have noticed people mention in this forum before about spouses of Swiss. This put me at ease, but obviously I won't be 100% at ease until my permit arrives.

My letter gave a date that they would consider my application whether I submitted the documents or not (10 days after my biometric scan). We wrote the letter, and my biometric scan was last week, so I'm now waiting.

Just wondering if you had any updates since you last posted?

I also had to do the FBI background check thing. What a pain! I ended up sending mine to a private company for a small fee, so I should have it in more like 2 weeks as opposed to 11-13 if you go directly through the FBI.
