I've read some threads about tax refund but I'm a little bit confused.
I'v worked in Zurich since August 2013 and I've a B permit (I'm Italian). I pay taxes at the source, so all the taxes are automatically deducted from my salary.
However, I've a third pillar account with Credit Suisse where I put 6.000 CHF during the last year (2013). They told me that I can ask back some money (more or less 1.300) with a tax refund. I don't know if they considered that I've a B permit and I'm not Swiss.
I can't understand whether I should apply for a tax refund or not and whether this is worth.
Does someone have similar experience or knows something about this topic?
Yes you can ask, and should, ask for a refund, really.
You don't need to complete the full tax declaration, just a form and provide proof (the annual statement from your bank).
The amount you get is the tax you paid when you earned the 6000, so eg: if say your salary tax rate is ~15% you get back 900 CHF, if you are a higher tax-payer and your rate is ~20% you get back 1200 CHF.
However, if you decide to withdraw the money from Pillar 3a early (for no good cause, eg buying a house), then you will have to pay the tax back (ie, treated as if you never put anything in the Pillar).
(1) the tax at source, so around 8.66% (They will take away 6k from your 'netto', then re-calculate Quellensteuer, which could be at a slightly smaller rate, eg 8.62% and then refund the difference).
(2) No. But you can leave it there till you get to retirement age (even if you move abroad). If your plan is to withdraw the money in a few years, there is no point in having a 3a in the first place.
