B Permit, tax refund

Hi all,

I've read some threads about tax refund but I'm a little bit confused.

I'v worked in Zurich since August 2013 and I've a B permit (I'm Italian). I pay taxes at the source, so all the taxes are automatically deducted from my salary.

However, I've a third pillar account with Credit Suisse where I put 6.000 CHF during the last year (2013). They told me that I can ask back some money (more or less 1.300) with a tax refund. I don't know if they considered that I've a B permit and I'm not Swiss.

I can't understand whether I should apply for a tax refund or not and whether this is worth.

Does someone have similar experience or knows something about this topic?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you can ask, and should, ask for a refund, really.

You don't need to complete the full tax declaration, just a form and provide proof (the annual statement from your bank).

The amount you get is the tax you paid when you earned the 6000, so eg: if say your salary tax rate is ~15% you get back 900 CHF, if you are a higher tax-payer and your rate is ~20% you get back 1200 CHF.

However, if you decide to withdraw the money from Pillar 3a early (for no good cause, eg buying a house), then you will have to pay the tax back (ie, treated as if you never put anything in the Pillar).

Hi

you can find the required form here:

http://www.steueramt.zh.ch/internet/...wnloadfolder_6

it is called "Antrag auf Neuveranlagung der Quellensteuer".

Regards

Andy

I'm a B permit, put the max in my 3rd pillar every year and claim taxes back every year. You use the simplified form.

Thanks slingb,

That's great!

So, just to be sure I've understood correctly.

This are the taxes I pay, not sure they are all taxes :

On the Brutto:

- Nichtberufsunfall 0.58%

- AHV-Beitrag 5.15%

- ALV-Beitrag 1.1%

On the Netto:

- Quellensteuer 8.66%

What will be the return percentage?

Is this valid also in the case I will withdraw the money because I will leave the country (e.g. going back to Italy)?

Thanks again!

I'll be filing for this tax correction for the first time as well.

Is the 3a account yearly statement enough proof to attach to the simplified form, or should I ask the bank to issue another document/statement?

This year I also made a contribution to my 2nd pillar and the pension fund sent me a letter (Bescheininung) to claim back tax.

Thanks in advance!

(1) the tax at source, so around 8.66% (They will take away 6k from your 'netto', then re-calculate Quellensteuer, which could be at a slightly smaller rate, eg 8.62% and then refund the difference).

(2) No. But you can leave it there till you get to retirement age (even if you move abroad). If your plan is to withdraw the money in a few years, there is no point in having a 3a in the first place.
