baby gifts via post need ideas

Hi,

i have three friends all having babies this year and wanted to know what would be a nice Suisse present that won't break the bank and is easy to send over to UK/Ireland. Any ideas would be great, it's just a token gesture to say congrats.

oh and any suggestions on which shops in the lausanne area would be great too.

thanks

Just ordered a personalized baptism gift by post. Biggest expense was the international shipping - email them and they'll adjust it. Still cheaper than Swiss prices - and it's personalized with the baby's name which is such a nice touch.

I would get something practical

People with babies get so many soft toys etc that they don't know what to do with them. Something usable is better.

If you can't think of anything, you can never have too many onesies, although its not terribly imaginative.

I got some lanolin nipple medication for a friend once as a joke (I also got her husband earplugs), but she ended up saying it was one of the most useful presents she got. The earplugs not so much . But nipple medication is a bit of strange present for most people..

I always send Swiss t-shirts/bodysuits & bibs to anyone back home who has had a baby. They are reasonably priced & nice & light to post. I usually add a block or 2 of some nice Swiss chocolate for the mum - it helps with the breastmilk!!!

I have since had several requests for bigger sized Swiss t-shirts as they have been such a hit.

excellent suggestions guys. thanks. nipple cream! what a laugh! that is useful and something people overlook! i bought my sister in law- stretch mark cream as part of her baby hamper. she said it was great.

I think it would be cute to send onesies or baby bonnets with "tourist" type logos on them (Swiss flag, cow with cowbell, edelweiss blossoms, etc etc)

Maybe also check online stores in the UK / Ireland if you want to send something more useful as well as the shipping maybe a bit easier that way.

They may even be registered someplace, like Babies R Us or someplace similar.

there is a little store in lausanne center- just a few shops down from the body shop called la lausannette (i think!).

it is a collective of knitted things (very creative and cute!) and wooden toys all made by people with disabilities and other issues- proceeds go to the organization and the items there are very nice and unique.

great things for babies/children and adults....

and it's inexpensive to ship knitted things as they don't weigh too much.

if you're around saturday afternoon pm me and we can have a cafecito and i'll take you there as we live not far and i'm bad with directions!

Send them each a Sophie the Giraffe toy. They are great!

excellent ideas, thanks. i think i will pop in tmrw so if anyone fancies a shop tmrw around 12pm then let me know. i am not allowed to shop on saturdays often due to the hubby being about!! so will have to go during the week. altho i am open to anyone interested in coffees in the city as i am free most days at the moment

Hi, I have sent the swiss wooden baby rattles (there are 2 swiss brands that are really nice and not available everywhere like some of the other toys), or there is one small music box where you pull the flower by the same company... easy to post, really useable and nice looking. They are expensive for a baby rattle, but have been much enjoyed by those that received them!

good luck!

This is the company I go to for my Swiss stuff for presents. They have some great things, and it's all very well made. If you want a smock embroidered with eidelweiss, this is the place for you. They also do baby clothes and wooden toys.

Cheers

Jim

I always send one of these pacifiers with names. Moms love it and the postage is just ignorable.
