baby's passport photo

Can anyone suggest me where to take an official passport photo?

My baby is only 3 months.

It is difficult to hold the baby's head and keep her not smile and something else rules.

Anyone has experience on this?

Thanks.

We made my son's passport photo at 2 months. They don't smile at that age anyway (unless they are probably passing gas), and you do not need to hold the head as the babies are proped to keep looking straight.

The hardest part is to avoid them crying, not smiling.

Just go to a professional photographer. They know their business.

Ha, thanks for quick reply. Do you have suggestions on a professional photographer? Thanks.

I actually tried to take a photo at home but quite difficult...

I did it in my local photographer. Cost me 20chf, I belive, for 6 photos.

I wouldn't do it at home, but I guess that depends on your own country of origin. Mine doesn't allow home photos.

I did it once in a photographer in Rennweg, right in the city center, close to the HB. They did a good job. Really, best to check google maps for the closest photographer to your home.

My daughter's passport photo was taken at six weeks old. (do i win?)

It was for a UK passport and there are basically no rules other than take a photo of the babies face.. She was sound asleep lying in bed.. I just took the photo myself and cropped it to the correct size..

Common sense really, no requirement for looking some particular way.

No similar rules here..?

The "rules" belong to the passport issuing nation...not the photographer

As I have mentioned before, I use the app My Photo Pro to take my own passport photos. It knows the size required for each country and crops accordingly.

For NL and UK passports...we placed our little one on a plain grey sheet and took a hundred or so photos with a digital camera.

We took them all on a USB stick to a good photo shop in Basel where they specialise in passport photographs.

They picked the ones that fit the requirements of either country as per a manual they had in the shop and printed them for us to size.

I can recommend the camera shop in Basel on Clarastrasse just before you get to Messeplatz.

We also now have a few hundred pics on file of our 10 year old when he was 3 months pulling all kinds of amusing and cute expressions.

Cheers,

Nick

We went to a professional photographer...if you're getting it done for an AU passport (whose list of requirements gets longer every year) its worth going to one of their approved photographers. We took our son to get his done at 2 weeks old (had to wake him up to get his eyes open) at the FotoPro Bàˆren near Zurich HB. They have a good set up for taking baby passport photos (bub is in a reclined baby rocker that is covered with a white sheet) and are very patient ... will quite literally take 1000s of pictures until you get one that meets all the requirements for your country. Costs 35CHF for 4 photos...more if you want a digital copy.

Good luck!

Indeed, some don't even require a photo.

For CH passports, you get them taken there at the passport office - both went very well

1. Get a soft carpet. If carpet is white go to #3

2. put a white sheet or towel on carpet

3. lay baby on carpet / sheet / towel on baby's back

4. take picture(s) from above until you get the perfect one

5 put picture on USB stick or similar device and have it printed professionally (legal passport size and all)

This is how I did it (twice), worked well both times.

P.S.

as far as I remember the only limitation is white or almost white background, the no-smile rule does not apply to babies.
