Today received a letter from IWB saying that a non-return valve needs to be installed in my house as per specifications SR772.800 regarding the safe supply of drinking section 28, paragraph 2.
The device is to prevent the backflow or sucking back from the doemstic plumbing.
The installation of such a device is at the home owners expense.
Anyone else receiving such letters in the Basel area?
Interestingly I worked for a company in the UK in 89, which made a fortune selling double non-return valves across the UK, seems odd that Switzerland is just catching up now.
Possibly they are worried about electricity cuts stopping the water supply and then the risk of backflow.
Theoretically, they are responsible for the water supply so if they are worried then they should install such valves at the point the individual house supply branches off from the common feed.
Anyway, it is not likely to cost you very much depending on where the pipe enters your property.
