Bars in Zug.

Hello,

Can anyone suggest any good bars in Zug?

Thanks,

Well, there is the Pickwick of course. Lots of expats. On the 13th they will have a band playing that has become infamous in the area "Triple Bypass". I'll be there as well.

The Almodo is pretty popular.

Pickwicks is fine if you want to be around a lot of expats and if you go with friends. But i've been there once in the 4 months i've been here and i still don't have the desire to go back. It's not a bad place, please don't take offense, just a bit boring compared to other bars in the area.

i like the Imhof, right around the corner from the clock tower ( http://www.imhof-zug.ch ). nice atmosphere, relaxed. unfortunately the prices aren't much better than pickwicks.

I'm a huge fan of the Baarer brewery in Baar. Great beer, much cheaper than any place in Zug i've found, good food, and the patio (at least in the spring-fall) is top notch.

Good bars might be subjective but here is my list:

In the Summer, Schiff Panorama Bar is unbeatable, with a clear view of Lake Zug and an amazing sunset.

There is also Grand Cafe on Baarerstrasse just opposite the Credit Suisse, nice to have some afternoon/afterwork drinks outside, or at the bar at night or when it's cold.

Spago Zug , is a restaurant not far from Grand Cafe, and they do have a small bar where you can have a couple of quiet drinks and some nibbles before you head off somewhere slightly more upbeat.

Almodo Bar , or the winter retreat as I'd like to call it, is not very far from the train station, heading towards the Hockey stadium, it's a bit too cold for me with everything being in white, but it's nice every now and then or for starting drinks and some tapas (note it isn't a spanish place they just serve a good variety of finger food).

Mantra Bar , is just across the road from pickwicks and being slightly cheaper is quite popular with the locals, it also appeals to (IMO) some hippy varieties as they used to/might still allow people to smoke water pipes there, it's nice and cosey and if Pickwicks is too packed or you fancy talking to someone away from the crowd that's the place to go.

Chicago Bar , is also a nice bar, right behind the Ferrari garage, they do have some comedy nights every now and then (Swiss prices CH60.- and up), and very lively band nights, which play host to some of the expat bands like Shotgun Mama, and Triple Bypass (I think some of the band members are the same), I'd recommend it if you fancy a little bit of a wiggle after you've had a few, I wouldn't go there earlier than 10pm as it tends to be dead.

Mr. Pickwicks , it's the default choice for expats, if you can't choose, Pickwicks will do, it's convinient, it's just there! and there is always someone you know who also didn't have a plan, or just working on one. If you don't know many people that is also the place you will meet a lot of the people in Zug. If you want to get to know the locals it's not the place for you, it's an Expat Ghetto! The prices are not cheap, CHF9.- for a pint, but hey you get what you pay for, it's great :-)

For the ultimate night out in Zug, I would suggest you might try... wait for it.... oh god am I really gonna say this... L&G yes I said it, the infamous Lounge & Gallery, you either love it or hate it, it's like marmite, I wouldn't go there before midnight, it's the only club in Zug (other than Topas but that's crap), and if you're young or old for that matter, and just wanna go a little crazy in the winter months, they do try their best to put up a good night. If that's not enough for you, the Burger Van outside always makes it feel like you've had a good night, even though you won't remember exactly what you ate...

by the time you've tried a couple of these you would have made up your mind about which places are worth going to again, there are few other bars but I must get back to work!

+1 for Mantra & Grand Cafe

cheers

yes, I like the imhof, day and night.

There is also the Zyt Club opp the clock tower www.zytclub.ch . I call it the cigar bar. Nice if you fancy a smoke.

Also, just up the hill is the Skull Pub. Very different

There is also Chicago's at the rear of the Ferrari dealer in Zug

Chicago is quite nice.

I have heard a place called the Widder Bar in Zug... does anyone know if it's any good, or where it is!?
